Nearing 3 weeks of holiday, how is the 2014 cohort doing?

Think you're on track? Are you happy with your progress so far?

EDIT: Please take "Okay" as "Good".

In first week of holidays I couldn't really study as I went to Queensland though I did bring the book Frankenstein with me, I didn't have time or energy to read it lol
Uh I'm not sure what happened after that, I think the week after was just full of Christmas and New years and stuff. Then I began reading and taking notes on Julius Caesar. I'm happy I did that because I understand what happens and all, except I realised I had other more important things to do, like finishing notes from last term. So now I started finishing biology dot points. But my main problem with studying is huge lack of motivation. It is an achievement in itself to even begin studying. And usually I can only study for 1 - 2 hours a day before feeling distracted and exhausted. So my progress is rather slow but I'm setting myself daily goals so hopefully I can do better - well at least I am doing some things instead of nothing!

I'm on the 'Meh' side :|

I've done a little bit of work (tidying notes etc.) but I haven't been able to bring myself to actually read my Mod A texts and finish assignments early (I have one that isn't due until like Term 2 and I've done some of it. I know I should probably just get it over and done with but I just can't sit myself down and do it all).

To be honest, I just don't want to be burnt out before the term even starts so slow and steady is the way to go for me personally.

Yeah, make notes from last term. You don't want to drag it out and then it'll pile up with next term's notes (keep in mind that next holiday is only 2 weeks, so you don't have the luxury like you do now. The term would be used for assessment tasks and other things.). Also, the longer you wait to write those notes, the harder it'll be (as you'll forget).

For motivation, hopefully ^ motivated you. Are you studying in front of a computer? If you are and you need the computer for reasons like using Microsoft Word, then disconnect the internet. If it's for research, then you'll just have the fight off the urge to use social media (and this site, of course.. :)).

You have a couple of weeks left. As the term draws closer, you'll find that your study periods would become longer (you'll realise how little time you have left and hence adrenaline would be rushing).

All in all, good luck for the HSC.

Note: It seems like you're indefinite about your career goal. In that position, you need to work harder so that your ATAR is maximised, giving you the chance to change your mind when ATAR is released.

Tidying notes? So you've already written your notes? (Y) Good stuff. Keep on polishing it and summarising it. It'll really benefit you when trials come. That period before trials is so short. The more work you do now for module 1, the more time you have to study for the other modules (keep in mind that the other holidays are only 2 weeks and hence you won't have the time to study the other modules extensively (relative to now)). Also, you'll learn a bit of module 4 and then trials come (module 4 is usually the option topic, many people are weak in this section because of the lack of time to study). However, it sounds like you're on track and removed the need to "really" restudy module 1 before trials.

As for being burnt out, this is a long holiday, you have the luxury to take it slow. Many people (in year 12) go overseas in this period as well (like shortnsweet).

I'm definitely 'Meh'. I've read Frankenstein and sticky-noted good quotes in preparation for English Advanced, written about one-third of my first draft of my EE2 major work, which I'm pretty happy with, but it just feels like there is so much more to do. Tonnes of reading for EE1 and 2 and a month's worth of distance education French Continuers work. It just never seems to end...

I wasn't an English person myself and hence I don't know if you're progressing good or bad (especially with the 1/3 of the major work). Maybe someone who done EE2 can comment.

I don't want to give you false encouragement so here's a sideways thumbs up.

Whoops, might be too big.

-Well, holidays are for relaxing, rejuvenating and recharging yourself as well as preparing ahead-so don't worry about the past.

Maybe check out the following threads that may assist you to become more motivated:)
http://community.boredofstudies.org/476/lifestyle/inspirational-quotes-298303.html (a thread full of inspirational quotes)
http://community.boredofstudies.org/128/preliminary-hsc/study-motivation-tips-231149.html (a thread of awesome study tips/motivation tips)
http://community.boredofstudies.org...on-your-school-rank-doesnt-matter-316469.html (an inspirational story from a 2013er:))
http://community.boredofstudies.org...est-shot-leave-no-regrets-317553.html(another real story which will hopefully motivate you to work harder:))

However, ultimately, setting goals is not going to help too much if you don't make them realistic, meaningful and being able to evaluate your progress in them. You have to establish short term goals to achieve your long term ones, and these goals are not just in academic fields, but should incorporate health and social-because ultimately having a balance in life is essential for long term academic success. You really need to have a really deep think about your future career goal and ask yourself whether you are doing enough to achieve it.

Ultimately, when you lack motivation, just think of all the other studious individuals who are studying while you are busy procrastinating/relaxing-this is very important particularly if you still feel unmotivated during the school term. Clarify your purpose of doing the HSC-how it will help you to get to where you want to be, and just ask yourself-do you want to have any regrets that you could have tried harder but you haven't? Be consistent-break study sessions into 30 minutes if you need to accommodate your shorter attention span, but make sure you use the rest of your holidays very well-IN AN ENJOYABLE AND PRODUCTIVE WAY-because time is a commodity that no amount of money can buy back:) Carpe Diem(seize the day!)-best wishes for you to ace your HSC:)

Was hoping to achieve more than what I currently am before the holidays started, but I'm happy with my progress so far.

As long as you're happy it's all good. If you continue to be happy with your later progress (now until HSC), you'll definitely succeed. (Y)

Voted 'okay' - hah it's interesting that no one chose 'super content'. Personally I slacked off at the beginning of the holidays, managed to get a bit of work done, then got a big chunk finished when I was studying at the library. Definitely still feels like there's a lot to do, though.

Had a bit of a break today so it's back to work tomorrow!

You can do it! Sounds like you know what you should be doing. If you need any help today, feel free to post it here.

Overseas? You're that person who posted their in China in my NYE thread, right? So, how was NYE over there? Better fireworks than here?

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll pull through once you get back to Australia. Did you bring your books over there?

I'm overseas as well, it makes it so hard to actually get work done when you just want to have a holiday! I missed three weeks of school as well, so in reality I'm still trying to catch up on the 90 hours of missed class time. Are you there for a language program or just a holiday?

Voted 'Meh' too because the majority of my studying has been exclusively for Legal Studies (idk why, it's not even my favourite subject) and watching movies in French and feeling like it's studying. I have no English creative stories written apart from a recycled one from Year 11. Oh well better work harder in the last few weeks then

Ah yeah you're on French exchange - how's it going? :)
I can imagine that it's frustrating, wanting to study and have a holiday at the same time. At least it's helping your French, though!

Yep, I am on exchange :) for me, the difficult part is the fact that I start school an hour earlier here and don't get finish until 6pm. I walk home, help with dinner and the kids and everything, eat, have a shower and by the time I get a spare minute it's 9pm, I've done 10 hours of school and I have to be up at 6:30am the next morning to do the same thing all over again! There's not a whole lot of time to do loads of homework or catch up on the three weeks of missed school :/ On the bright side my French has gotten better and I leave for Paris tomorrow :)
