I have recently enrolled at USYD for Engineering, however because i don't have 3U assumed knowledge the academic advisor enrolled me in the fundamental Math unit MATH1011 (Applications of Calculus) instead of the core unit MATH1001 (Differential Calculus). She went on to say that MATH1011 will go on to be a prerequisite for other units in the course instead of MATH1001 for me. I asked if doing MATH1011 will mean that I have to do the course longer and she said no. So does this mean that MATH1011 is completely replacing MATH1001 for me?

Yes, it will replace your MATH1001, but double check the prerequisites for your Engineering subjects anyway.

MATH1001 etc is the compulsory core for BE students. Only in exceptional circumstances (eg did General Maths at high school) are students allowed to do MATH1011 instead of MATH1001. Which stream of engineering (eg Chemical, Civil etc) are you doing?

I dunno, wouldn't you be better off doing MATH1001 and catching up on the prereq knowledge now rather than missing out on a whole bunch of Math/doing simplified versions of the subjects over the course of your degree?
