Heyy everyone. I just wanted to ask a question- is it common for Australian uni students at UNSW to talk with international students?? And are there a lot of non-Asian international students? << I'm just interested to know these things. Thank youu :)))))

They're people. You might end up talking to them, you might not. Depends how social you are, and how social they are.

Also there is a helping of like French, Swedish and American international students too - it's not all Asian. Also I've found that international students usually tend to themselves - or at least those from their culture/background, which is fair enough.

I think that's more in particular with Chinese and Indian international students though; I've seen the French, Swedish and the other races tend to intermingle with other people.

Really?! This is what I was looking for when I asked the question- I didn't know if international students tend to stick together or they're open to socialise. It would be great to have a conversation and get to know someone from a different country and culture, but I get the impression that they'd feel uncomfortable or it would be awkward to go to their group, idk.

Some are, some don't.

But as I said, they're not going to have a sign above them that says "Hi! I am an international student" - so you're really just best off making friends, and if it turns out later they're international - then great.

Language is a barrier for everyone. It's hard for them to communicate in English (even some Western international students) so they will obviously stick with people who they can communicate with. You could just randomly sit next to them in a lecture and strike up a conversation beforehand. It's also as simple as saying hi the next time you meet them, and you may end up in the same tutorial or whatever.

Thank you for that answer :) I think that would be the smartest way to get to know them.

Chinese students are really bad at english, they seem to stick together. Lucky for them it seems like they form like 60% of the population.

Happens at uts too. Overseas students tend to stick with people who speak the same language.
Look that's fairly understandable. If you go to a foreign country and cant speak the local language, you would also want to talk to people who speaks English
