Understanding the mole concept is fundamental for chemistry. It's one of the most important aspects as it carries onto Year 12, so it's good to fully understand how it works! :)

Since I have so much time on my hands this holidays, I'm thinking of accelerating myself in Chemistry and learning the mole concept early. Is this a good idea?

I've been thinking about doing the same thing - it can't hurt :) Even if you don't fully understand it when you teach yourself, you'll be more prepared when you get to it in class :)

Yeah, a lot of people in my tutor class have found it in particular quite confusing to grasp. Like with what macrazy said it can't hurt to get ahead! I have some papers on the mole concept (online worksheets) so if anyone wants some practice PM me :)

Ur soo smart :D
After loads of practice i finally got the concept of moles... I hope the water topic is much easier.
What school do u go to?
Hahaha not even! I sometimes wonder at night if im actually retarded. I attend Canley vale hs

yeah, if anything is emphasised in preliminary chemistry its the concept of MOLES, as its probably the only important concept in year 12

yes! YES and YES! a lot of people don't understand the concept of moles well and I have often seen this as a downfall in exams. even something simply as understanding that while moles can be converted, mass and molar masses cant (ive seen people do this many many times) so id advise learning and understanding the mole concept thoroughly

IMO its important to learn a concept before hand, then learning it again in class to get a thorough understanding!

The water topic is alright so far but apparently the energy topic is hell. As long as you understand the topics well for chemical earth and moles the other modules should be fine as long as you stay attentive and understand WHY.

This. It is imperative that you understand the reasoning behind the concept. I think there was a method called elaborative interrogation where you read a given fact and ask a question to see why it's like that, iirc. So it's really useful to ask questions to yourself in subjects like Chemistry, because you cannot memorise (there are stuff you have to rote-learn but still).

No, but I have friends in Year 12 who did chemistry, and one who wanted to drop it because of the energy topic. It isn't 'hell' necessarily, I just think that because it's the last module it is expected that you understand the chemical concepts explored in the previous modules and are able to use them in the last module for prelim :)
For my school, we are beginning metals but for tutor we have begun the water module.
The energy topic is more 'physics-based' I believe(?) but by scanning over the syllabus:
- carbon bonds
-endo/exotehrmic reactions
-catalysts
-Bp and Mp
-bond making
-allotropes
But as hawkrider and I have stated as long as you understand the concepts it should be bearable!

Reading all this ^ I am just so glad I have completely cut off the whole science faction from my life...Such a relief
Tho I will admit it was a little humiliating when my baby bro asked me a science qu and I had absolutely no idea
Oh well ;)

Hey guys I hope u have a great day :D
I'm just wondering where everyone is at for 2u maths cos i've heard that some people are up to the derivative.
We're going to start sequences and series in the cambridge book.

Plane Geometry lol

I need to accelerate myself
Just do some of the exercises like logs/indices, trigonometry, coordinate geometry.
I'm planning to do this chapter and the rest before school starts so this becomes revision.

The plane geometry or the stuff you mentioned?

what ever u haven't started in plane geometry and the other topics. Just don't rush and attempt all the questions including the easy ones cos that's where many people lose marks from silly mistakes.
