I heard that you can be declined from doing subjects in year 11 - eg if you get below a B in science you can't do any of the sciences, and 2 unit maths is invite-only. Is this BS?

And I heard from another person that you can do any subjects you want. So even if someone got like an E in English, they can still do EX1.

What is true?
it depends on your school, some are stricter or more lenient than others. If like u don't get invited for maths or anything u can ring the real BOS and tell them and they can force the school to put u into that class.
Like at my school u have to get an A to do physics or chem. To do ee1 u have to get consistently over 85% and only extension maths is an invite.

at my school you're allow to do anything, besides the fact that they will strongly discourage you from doing subjects that you don't get good marks in, but you can force your way in.

Basically what cleavage said haha

Saying that make sure you're aware of your own capabilities e.g. If you're really struggling with mats don't go ahead and choose MX1 just because it scalpels really well. Be aware of what you can and can't do and choose subjects based in your own preferences. Your teachers may have recommendations and I'd say it's wise to at least acknowledge that, however they cannot like physically stop you from taking a subject. Good luck :)

^^ -Depending on school-

Your school may require a B average to continue with any science, invite for maths and any other subject of your choice for the rest but take my school for example; you can choose extension mathematics if you're in 5.3 (top 70 or so), choose advance english if you ace your yearlies with a 75+ average, choose any science as long as you're a c+ student, and the rest is free to choose.

I'm pretty sure that schools cant prevent you from picking the subjects you want based on academic performance (that doesnt stop them though). They are however, allowed to exclude people on the basis of numbers.
