Hey guys so i've done my yearly exams and have received a mixed range of marks and was wondering if i should drop a subject for year 12 as i currently have 12 units. I study: English adv, business, Ipt, engineering, math 2u, physics. my ranks are:

english adv - 18/214 90%
business - 24/131 90%
math 2u - 68/150 70%
ipt - 2/32 94%
engineering - 9/34 72%
physics - 23/82. 80%

school rank 120s

Personally i am really satisfied with all of my subjects with exception to engineering. It has way too much content and the exam went for 3hrs. Also it is really boring and all we learn is calculating forces, and microstructures of materials and how they are made, basically everything is related to mechanical and civil engo. I really want to drop this subject because i feel that it will consume a lot of my time during the HSC year and that it will make me lose study time for much harder subjects like physics which i really need to work on. Also only 1 student had achieved a band 6 in engo for the 2013 hsc class and this is really demoralising compared to my other subjects where a lot of students excel.
My problem is that if i do drop engineering that i will be left with 10 units, taking away the 'safety net' of 2 units that would be helpful incase i fail a subject, but at the same time i don't want to do the course because it is really time consuming and the effort is not worth the mediocre scaling.
So what do you suggest? I am really confused as what to do. I see a lot of people doing 10 or 11 courses units for HSC and only a small portion carry 12.
Also i need to make a decision by friday as we will be enrolled into year 12 courses then.

Thanks, astroman.

That's technically putting effort into 10 units not 12 :haha:

So I don't see the point.
so should i drop it?? Also how do i convince my parents that i wanna drop a subject, they are super strict on studies.

you've pretty much answered your own question with the OP. You're not enjoying it, so drop it.

Idk... Reason with them, explain pros and cons dropping X subject
what would happen if i drop and carry 10 units and do bad in one sub? am i fked?

There are too many outcomes to determine whether you're screwed. But, generally your ATAR will be affected greatly if you bomb out in one sub.

Nonetheless, as long as you work hard and do well, dw.
ok thanks for the advice.

my parents will ring the school and ask for results and how i am going in the subject. They also talk to every single teacher at parent teacher interview regardless of whether or not i do it. :(

Gosh that's annoying, just tell them that you think you can do much better with 10 units.

they will be like 'no y u wanna drop' 'u dumb? ' i can get u a tutor!'
explain that you are not 12 anymore and that I am not getting any benefit from doing 12+ units and say that I can get 99.95 + 10 state ranks if i drop this and then go into med and make lots of monies

i think the chances of me getting 99.95 are slim.

Clearly you know better than your parents. Ignore them. And then do a little dance.
i'll make a fake story regarding some family friend that got better atar who did 10 units and another that did 12 and got 30 atar.
