Hey guys

So it's that time of year in the life of a year 10 student -.-

I'm in the process of choosing my year 11 courses for next year and I have a few questions to ask.

Firstly, these are the subjects I PROBABLY will be taking:
3u English
2u Maths - I wanted to take 3u but it clashed with my 3u English
2u Bio
2u Chem
2u Physics
2u Modern Hist
1u Catholic Studies
Are these subjects recommendable for a 99+ ATAR? I'm pretty flexible when it comes to learning and I don't really find these subjects TOO hard. Would you think this is manageable especially with three sciences? I've entered these courses but I can still change it (thankfully). NOTE: In year 12 I'll pretty sure I'll be taking 4u English and Catholic Studies. As for my other units I'm still not certain but I'm tossing between all sciences or a combination of two sciences and Modern History.

Secondly, I'm still on the fence with physics and chem. I love space and that's pretty much it. I don't really know about physics and its intricacies but hey, it's worth a try right? And about chem - chem is just chem. Did you find any of these subjects it enjoyable? I'm dead set on choosing BIO as I think it's honestly pretty easy. Any positives and negatives about my science subjects?

Any advice would be appreciated!!!!

word of advice, prelim physics is super boring and really not involving much space at all, HSC is mostly space, this is my opinion

Word of advice, only have 12 units in year 12, 10 would be much better. Reason is because only 10 of your units are going to count to your atar. Instead of wasting time on an additional 2 or more units of work, focus on other subjects to maximise marks and atar. Legit do not go into HSC with more than 12, even 12 I believe is stupid. Choose subjects your good at and that will help in regards to scaling. Focus on them and try and get band 6 in all of them.

I would choose 3 unit maths over 3 unit English, if you are good at both. It has higher scaling, is more interesting, and takes less time (usually, but not always). It's also quick to do past papers. You just do them, and then finish, whereas with English there's all this fluff etc. Buut that's just what I think. Your other subjects are good choices though, but just reconsider the 3 unit maths - because it helps immensely with 2 unit, whereas English 3 unit doesn't necessarily help with 2 unit.

You clearly have not gone through the Cosmic Engine Module :p

Other than that Electricity is boring and so is Moving About

But the World Communicates Module is alright

This is true.

Biggest advice I can give you is don't choose subjects purely based on "high scaling" or a 99+ ATAR. The key to getting good marks in year 12 is to choose subjects you're good at, interested in and enjoy. If you don't put in the effort, you won't get much out of it.

Having twelve units for me has been hard, however, it has taken a lot of stress knowing my worst subject won't count.

Good luck!
