I was just wondering what the majority of people do regarding note taking, whether they type or handwrite their notes. Let me know what you do

Lol your profile says your doing the hsc this year, i don't know how this relates to uni...
anyways, for chem I prefer to write my notes but for subjects like english I prefer to type paragraphs because it's easier to read and memorise.

Idk about others but I only bring scrap paper to school (I don't own books for ANY subject). Can't stand writing things down. Why not just type @ 120wpm to save time

i would suggest hand writing all your notes at first and then processing them all into one document on a computer for revision.

get distracted in lectures, facebook, bored, etc

I'm no uni student but I write my notes now because it's better.
1. Because you write slower, you're forced to pick out the most important things and notes become considerably shorter
2. Apparently helps you to remember better

the only downside is that if you lose your book you lose all your notes, but you can always scan stuff into your computer just in case

On a side note, when I hit uni there was no need to make notes/no time.

Just printing out lecture slides, and writing down random stuff on the slides or my book is enough as long as I understood everything. Otherwise, I wouldn't say I was making notes.

However, being someone who has to constantly draw diagrams, write equations, etc, I just find pen easier.

Surface's are really good too as you get the extra advantage of typing and writing out too for convenience.

Still, I'll prefer to write out with pen and paper due to flexibility too. In saying that the matter is all based on personal preference. Perhaps a poll would have been nice here. 3 options. 2 for each side and one for in between.

Typing is quicker, though you have to consider that you have to take the time to think first before going in to type straight away.

handwritten, personal preference... if I take in my laptop to a lecture I would be majorly screwed... Internet is like a sap to productivity... I find I take in a shit load more if I am writing it as well...

To Remember a Lecture Better, Take Notes by Hand

I've found handwriting notes (& drawing diagrams etc.) to be by far the best way to learn the material and keep it memorised. But it often means that watching a 1 hour lecture takes 2 hours with notetaking. Typed notes are very difficult for me to learn though, so I've found the happy medium to be printing out the slides and making my own brief notes on them to summarise the main idea of each slide.

as long as you can understand and remember your notes, there is no real difference between typed and written. I think people prefer typed as it is more easily accessible for quick information, it can be edited anytime and can be expanded on easily.

I personally prefer to type them out. During lectures I print out slides and write additional information beside them. But I just find it easier to type them, then it gives me more time to revise them. I remember the same amount if I were to write them so there's no real difference.
