what are : raw marks, TWM, aligned mark and how do they calculate the band from them? (1 Viewer)

i am confused as to how ur performance band is calculated. I found this on the raw marks database for physics, can some1 explain how marks of 75 correspond to a band 6? Soz but i am a noob

The raw mark is what you have actually received in the HSC. Depending on the difficulty of the exam and subject, this mark is aligned to the mark it should correspond to. The aligned mark is what will appear as your external assessment mark on your HSC. You don't get your actual raw marks unless you pay for it.

so aligned is basically scaling the mark of the subject according to how hard it is?? so a 70 in physics will get scaled high??

If we disregard last year's exam, I would've said yes. However, it all depends on the difficulty of the exam where "usually" 70 in physics would jump to mid band 5.

so the aligning will change each year depending on difficulty of exam?

Yes, e.g. Look at the stat where in 2010, 75 aligned to 90 whereas in 2013, you needed 85 to align a 90.
