No Labor still have a lot of brand management to deal with before they can be a contender

Honestly, majority of Australias would agree that Liberal would be better than Labor. They are hoping they can reduce the publicity on the budget and move on
I'm guessing you're unfamiliar with opinion polls.

Malcolm Turnbull is positioning himself for the Liberal leadership and the Prime Ministership of Australia. Malcolm Turnbull is like Lady Macbeth "out out foul spot" but he said it and he will be judged by it. Tony Abbott is a one term wonder. Malcolm Turnbull has started the process of the destabilisation of the Abbott leadership.
Seriously that is just media propaganda... how can you comment on that with the whole Julia and Kevin debacle?

And what is it based on? The opinion of ONE man whom you Laborites love to criticise.

Tony Abbott is finished and has shrunk in the job. Tony Abbott has lost the confidence of the Australian people. Tony Abbott has a target on his head. The Abbott government is a government that should have died of shame. Good bye Tony Abbott. Good bye Tony Abbott. It is time for Labor, Greens and Palmer United Party to unite and save Australia from the incompetent rule of the Liberal Party. Tony Abbott's government is an absolute train wreck. United we stand under the Southern Cross. Tony Abbott has utter contempt for the people of Australia and for the institution of parliament and is demeaning the office of Speaker. Tony Abbott asked the Labor party to answer their own questions and refused to obey the standing orders of parliament. Abbott's attack on our way of life is the greatest assault faced by the Australian people. Pay as we go that is the hall mark of the Australian achievement. Tony Abbott is a false patriot and has undermined the conservative tradition by extreme economic neo liberalism which is going to create an underclass in Australian society.

by extreme economic neo liberalism do you mean cutting the amount by which government spending increases?

The government has promised not to gag the welfare sector as it has outlined plans to shrink the number of payments and supplements from 75 to as few as four.

Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews wants to streamline welfare payments
Source: ABC
Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews has signalled he wants to streamline welfare payments, describing the structure of the current system as being as complicated as a "bird's nest".

In the next couple of weeks Mr Andrews is set to release the first report from a review into the welfare system, conducted by former Mission Australia head Patrick McClure.

Both men spoke this morning at the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) national conference, where Mr McClure revealed some of the review's proposals.

"What we will be proposing in the interim report is a simpler architecture with fewer payments and supplements," he said.

"Across this system there would be an employment focus that encourages people to work who have got the capacity to work."

Mr McClure said there would be "rewards" for work, listing more consistent rules for income tests, taper rates for benefits and "better integration" of the tax system.

"Also another principle would be that there would be adequate support for people who can't work," Ms McClure said.
Do you agree with Mr Andrews's comments on streamlining welfare payments? Have your say.

The proposals are likely to be welcomed by Mr Andrews, who today noted the complexity of the current round of payments.

"The reality of our welfare system in Australia is that we've got dozens of payments, supplements and allowances," Mr Andrews said.

"If you draw a diagram of the welfare system it looks like a bird's nest and it's difficult to understand from that and it must be difficult to understand for lots of people who are participants in the welfare system."

He said years of often ad-hoc decisions to introduce new payments has prompted him to ask how it can be reined in.

"Can we simplify the system? Can we redesign it so it's established on some understood, reasonable principles but constructed in a simple way?," he put to the conference.

"Could we have four, five or six payments rather than the dozens we have at the present time?"

Joe Hockey is a man who is the Mr Potato head of Australian politics. Hockey might be the jockey but what a nag it is. If it entered the Melbourne cup it would still be running. Changing a horse's name will not help you win any races although it might get you in trouble with the stewards. Hockey when he was Minister for Workplace Relations tried to change the name of Work Choices.

Australian voters are dumbasses

They don't look at the long term policies of countries when they vote..... And recognise that all parties have good and bad aspects to them.

When Kevin Rudd said he was gonna give out laptops ... People were like "yay, free laptop", without thinking of the cost.

Now with the libs trying to fix the budget "too many cuts", "what about us poor people" .

That right .... Australian voters are sheep who listen to all the media spin and rubbish.

I like to think better of Australians as hardworking, decent and compassionate people. Without Australia's contribution the world would be a less secure and less compassionate place. The fair go should be shinning forward providing hope, reward and opportunity for all. I am a patriot at a time when patriotism is unfashionable. I am an advocate for the conservative tradition that has kept our nation strong and proud. At times of war the best of the Australian character is manifested such as our egalitarianism and zest for life.

derp....

this is why labor/greens shouldn't exist....
That's a good idea, eliminate all political parties that disagree with you. That's really democratic. Shows what kind of society Coalition supporters want.

TONY Abbott has achieved two of his top election promises — the carbon tax is abolished and asylum-seeker boats have more or less stopped. Yet despite the relentlessness with which he campaigned on both issues, neither success has had a noticeable impact in the opinion polls. Instead, the poorly received budget, self-inflicted distractions and mistakes, and opposition attacks on broken promises have led to a tougher-than-expected first year that sees the government with a lower primary vote than at the election and trailing Labor on the two-party preferred measure. Abbott’s personal ratings have taken a substantial hit.

I think the labor and greens behavior is disgusting...... that why they should wiped out and replaced with a suited opposition party.... if labor want to prove that they are good opposition.... they should come up with alternatives rather that to say no to everything.... and greens should be purely wiped out...

If labor can get rid of the greens.... that a good start....
