School Rank based on just last years' performance, or is it like 'averaged' or someting ?

From what I know, different websites use different algorithms/take different things into account. For example, "better education" offers three different ranking methods, with one based on "alumni who received the top order of Australia honours". You will notice that other websites such as Matrix have slightly different ranks as well. I'm pretty sure School Ranks don't take previous years performance into account. Some schools can fluctuate even over 100 places in a single year.

So, then if there were lets say an OFFICIAL rank they had from last years performance, then what rank will they use?

This is the defacto standard.

Keep in mind, the ranks are determined retrospectively. The ranks are more or less just for your own information; they don't really mean anything in the end.

Not sure if a stupid question, but then how come when people post for their estimated ATARs, people always ask for their school rank. And, that people say having a subject ranked last in James Ruse is different to say ranked last in Bankstown Highschool ?

it is more likely that someone at James Ruse will to better than someone from Bansktown High
