(6-4k)^2 = 36
36 + 16k^2 - 48k = 36
16k^2 - 48k = 0
16k(k - 3) = 0
k = 0 or 3
test buy subbing into original equation.
therefore k = 3 or 0 only

0 also works? (6- 4x0)^2 - 36 = 36-36 = 0

Also there is a slight quicker way to do it.

Take the 36 to the other side. Root both sides. (6-4k) = +- 6. Solve for k.
