so if you walk past one but you don't tap it the card makes a noise?

pretty sure thats not right why else would tons of ppl forget to tap on/off

iirc the opal card is a proximity card so it has to be near the reader to make the noise, so if you don't tap on I am sure the driver will notice and kick you off or make you pay

what, no it doesn't. Are you a bit young to remember the t-card? Same concept, you have to literally connect your card with the reader in order to tap on. Just like nfc on a phone or paypass on a mastercard. There might be say 3mm of clearance before the transmitter can't receive a signal. It doesn't just make a sound when you're in 'range'.

Oh but it makes a different sound if you attempt to tap on and it displays an error.

that's poor wording on my part.

the thing makes a noise if you tap on and if you didn't tap on there is no-noise and the driver will notice (probably) and will kick you off or something

Welp, just got reminded about opal concession.

I've been calculating my opal fares and I'm getting around $29.00 a week from Monday-Friday. And that's including the free trips that I get on Friday after having 8 journeys done Monday-Thursday.

Unless if I'm bothered, I'll probably still stick to a mymulti2 to save myself the time and the hassle to chase for bigger discounts.

Speaking of which, who will be getting opal concession here? (now that UNSW is one of the 5 universities that have opal concession)

Welp, just got reminded about opal concession.

How do I familiarise myself with the lecture rooms and etc? Are there any specific maps? All i could find were maps which just mentioned what the area was and nothing specific

ask people during the first few weeks if you get lost. You will know generally where all the buildings are by the end of the 1st week

there is also a lost on campus app for iOS/Android

Can i do anything before Uni starts?

Also is it good to have gaps between your lectures and tutes, to avoid showing up late to them if they were consecutive classes?

well there is O-Week when no offical classes run so you could find out where your classes are before hand

and that's not a problem. lectures and tutorials start 5 past and conclude 5 to giving you 10 minutes between classes (for walking, getting coffee/food, etc)

personally I like having consecutive lessons
