Answering to your question it is ok to skip orientation. The problem is you can potentially miss out any important information. Bad experiences with crowds?

That's ok about missing out information, my brother recently graduated from MQ so he should be able to answer any of my questions.
Not bad experience per say, I've just always felt uncomfortable with them. I'm an INTJ so the problem may be its too stimulating or something...

Don't worry about missing out. Any information you've missed out on you can ask others for it. I wasn't looking forward to going only because I was didn't know anyone but once we got into our groups (and they were tiny groups) I had fun socialising (well they made us socialise ahah). Basically they just did a campus tour and went over the services they provided.

Also, they said that we can email our mentors for copies of the slides from the presentation???? (I was sick and half brain dead, sorry)

It will be okay to skip orientation, you can always ask other 2nd years etc or fellow students who attended.

Hey, I went today with a friend and it was pretty cool. It was fun, awkward at times due to the forced ice breaker activities but overall worth it. You didn't really have to socialize anyways and some people chose not to talk to anyone. But the mentors really put in the effort to make it enjoyable. You get more of that opportunity to make friends really with other events organized such as the cruise they had, the lunches and stuff like the welcome party on friday. Like suika said, it'd be good to email your mentor as they can provide you with all the info you need plus the slides you would've missed out on. Really they just briefly touch on faculty related stuff, and the mentioned academic, administrative, geographic and social information you need. Also, I just found this piece of info - recordings for 2015 Academic Orientation will be available from Week 1 of classes (Monday 23rd February) online so
