Since John Howard started using the word "Un-Australian" in the mid 1995, more and more Australians started using this term to achieve their goals or put down their opponents.

But what does UnAustralian mean exactly?

I would consider unaustralian to mean not accepting of all faiths/cultures and being generally ignorant

Not congruent with Australian values or culture

Like thinking that hacking up a big glob of phlegm and spitting it on the footpath or eating dogs is okay.

So which one is it? Conform to your white Australian values or accept all cultures and values? I mean the official position of this country is multiculturalism.

the official position of china is communism
1. communism is not a national identity policy, it's an economic policy.

2. Communism is not the official economic policy of China, it's 'socialism with Chinese characteristic'.

3. The national identity policy of China is Zhonghua minzhu, with official recognition of 56 ethnic groups or races.

China is way more multicultural and tolerant than Australia will ever be.

In Chinese National People's Congress, you see representatives from all 56 ethnic groups, in the Australian Parliament, everyone is white except for half Chinese Penny Wong.

false

True, but the point still stands that few people would call china's economic system socialist.

3. The national identity policy of China is Zhonghua minzhu, with official recognition of 56 ethnic groups or races.
Sure, "recognition", but the government is basically han nationalism in policy.

China is way more multicultural and tolerant than Australia will ever be.
Yeah, as long as you don't speak to anyone from tibet or xinjiang lmao

Also, there appears to be a greater % han population in china than white population in australia.

And I don't exactly understand how that's supposed to be an argument in multiculturalism's favour, as if everyone is wanting to be more like china.

So why the fuck are you in australia then?

"Un-Australian" means whatever it's needed to mean in order for a racist old white conservative guy like John Howard to scare people into voting for him.

Isn't it unaustralian to force your value and culture upon other people?

No.

Here are the values of being "Australian"
respect for the freedom and dignity of the individual
equality of men and women
freedom of religion
commitment to the rule of law
parliamentary democracy
a spirit of egalitarianism that embraces mutual respect, tolerance, fair play, compassion for those in need and pursuit of the public good
equality of opportunity for individuals, regardless of their race, religion or ethnic background.
https://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/07values.htm

And yes you have to sign those value statements if you were to have a visa granted. Just because we are tolerant for other people's political or religious rights doesn't mean we allow those same people to abuse our system to attempt to install their system of governance. Best is the child bride case, just because your culture permits it doesn't mean it isn't criminal here despite us being "respecting people's cultures."

China is no way multicultural, if you believe that you have your head up your ass.

So what is the definition of "unaustralian" exactly and give me an example?

Because not eating lamb on Australian day does not violate any of the "Australian values" listed above.

Why does it matter? It's not used in an objective sense by most people so everyone's going to have their own take on it. It is almost always to do with australian values, but what are perceived as australian values varies.

It is Un-Australian to attack someone personally in a debate instead of providing good evidence and sound logic like an Australian.
