So, could you please tell me the difference between ethylene and ethene .

the previous syllabus referred it to ethene and our current one refers it to ethylene... i think anyway...~~

One is the IUPAC name and the other is the common name.

Sort of like vinyl chloride and chloroethene

Basically correct - industry discusses polymerisation of olefins with their common names - ethylene, propylene, etc. - rather than IUPAC names. Scientists / Academics mostly use IUPAC names like ethene. Graduates going into industry tend to quickly switch to the common names.
