well it looks like sydney is going to be a csg hellhole with wells being drilled right next to your drinking supply.
doubt it. no company would ever deal with the political flack of drilling CSG in a major city, it's just fucking retarded.

Drilling for CSG around the Sydney basin give shit as returns anyway - also considering that the oil/gas prices are still pretty low, they're probably not worth drilling anyway.

That said the Gold coast and northern NSW areas might be set to get CSG drilling soon.

It'll probably get shut down in the land and environment court.
they've licenced like 2/3rds of of nsw for exploration

most of it was done under labor

also, they could potentially poison the GREAT ARTESIAN BASIN

thats because the commonwealth took away their ability to raise their own income taxes at the state level

there are so few sources of revenue they end up being in the pockets of big business and destroying the environment, or having to keep certain people happy because it is politically expedient

I'd rather states not levy their own taxes. Don't want the same situation as the US. How is the states inability to raise revenue a cause for corruption? that's some dumb dumb logic.

no it isn't. The only way the state can get money is by raping you on stamp duty and local government fees and charges, and by being beholden to mining companies

You do realize all GST paid goes into states coffers distributed by the commonwealth right? income and corporate tax are the only two things that primarily fund the commonwealth.

you are aware of tied grants
And that the govt determines the percentage of gst collected that individual states actually get via the commonwealth grants commission.

At this stage our federal balance is so distorted we should just let gst fund the commonwealth and make income taxes a state only affair

have fun with a bankrupted federal government.

Australia is perfectly fine in how we levy taxes, were small enough as a country the rules should be roughly the same across everywhere.

as opposed to the bankrupted state governments we already have?

We dont get any real democracy if the states cant make their own financial choices
