Buying A Subaru around 10 years old with high km's on budget (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I currently drive a pretty basic 2005 manual Nissan Pulsar which I got for $5300 in November 2014 with 92500km's at the time (around 95000 currently)

It's not a bad car but I really hate the front wheel drive and the little power and toque it has so I'm wanting to upgrade it soon this year for something under around $7000.

I'm looking for a decent AWD so I won't get bogged like I already have been and can take it to the snow and that is still a manual, preferably a Subaru liberty or Subaru of some kind within 10 years old and not much older.

The decent Subaru's I have looked at that are within my price range are mostly well over 100,000 kms - 200,000kms and much more.

Is it ok to buy one with well over 100,000kms? as this car will be my daily driver and will get all kinds of use.

100,000kms is not much, and $7k won't get you a sub with that low km's

Do your market research first..look around for better prices and after you have conclude what is the best offer then buy.

100,000kms is not much, and $7k won't get you a sub with that low km's

Already seen heaps with around 120,000 for around 7.5k

I'm more just asking if it's worth getting a subie with over 100,000-200,000kms with my budget under 10k

which model do you want, a stock old subbie isn't any faster than your current pulsar, if you want fast, you need a wrx

Stock Subies are pretty slow although they drive very nicely. I would worry less about km and more about how well the engine is maintained. You don't want a Subaru that's missed service intervals. 100-200k km is fine on a well maintained Boxer engine.

OP look for something that is well serviced at around 150 000 km liberty/outback/forester range (for $10k or under) with no past history of crashes. Or you could do with an impreza at around 100 000 km that is well serviced for under $10k as well.

Yeah tbf you don't want a cannon exhaust on a stock liberty lol. That might actually have an adverse effect on performance lol.

Wait, which model Subaru is the Op looking at though? I thought even a 2L N/A Subie won't be that huge an improvement over his 2005 Pulsar to be worth the hassle/etc and might be better off saving a little longer to get something with more power?

I have no idea on car prices now that I'm no longer in Aus.

If Op is doing HSC in 2014, then chances are he is still on P's. IMO, save up, wait until fulls, and then go for something which will have a genuinely noticeable difference.
