For standard applicants this method gives a good indication of your chance for an interview with UNSW Med.

First, based roughly on UAC's table A9

equate your predicted ATAR to an Average Mark AvM as follows:
ATAR => AvM
99.95 => 96
99.50 => 92
99.00 => 90
98.00 => 86
97.00 => 83
96.00 => 80

Then your combined ATAR UMAT score is A+U = AvM + (UMAT Overall Score / 3)

A+U cutoff for interview offers has been around 150, could be a little higher now, so the more it is above 150 the more assured of an interview.

For an update, from info I have obtained from two unis (where final ranking is based on a combined score) it appears the common practice is to use the z-score standardisation method.

With the "population" being those attending interviews, the mean ATAR and standard deviation are calculated. Same for UMAT and Interview. Your score in each is expressed as the number of SD above or below the mean. These three numbers are then totaled accordingly with weighting.

ATAR => ASM
99.95 => 95
99.50 => 91
99.00 => 89

Then add UMAT Average Score to form your Combined ATAR/UMAT score
i.e. A+U = ASM + (UMAT Overall Score / 3)

well this sucks, it means i'll need at least 99.95 to be over 150 and get an interview.

Only my calculations but it approximates well with previous years.

For this year we've seen a 99.20/179 (close to 150 in my calc) got an invitation, a 98.75/190 (~151 my calc) no invitation. However more than one person has expressed surprise with this case and wondered if the school had sent the predicted 98.75 ATAR to UNSW.

Anyway it shows again around 150 is the magic number. If you have 165 UMAT then likely you'll need 99.90+
