Re: HSC 2015 2U Marathon

Yes:

(a) A particle is moving in a straight line, starting from the origin. At time t seconds
the particle has a displacement of x metres from the origin and a velocity
v m s–1. The displacement is given by x = 2t – 3 loge (t + 1).
(i) Find an expression for v.
(ii) Find the initial velocity.
(iii) Find when the particle comes to rest.
(iv) Find the distance travelled by the particle in the first three seconds

Any ideas?

Re: HSC 2015 2U Marathon

Geppetto’s wish to build Pinocchio requires 5 years of regular deposits at the beginning of every month. He decides to deposit $100 on the first month with the Pleasure Island Bank, who pays interest of 6% p.a. compounded monthly. However, Geppetto’s desire to build Pinocchio is unexpectedly hard such that at the beginning of every month Geppetto makes a deposit that is 5% less than the previous deposit. At the same time, Pleasure Island Bank decides to tax 1% of Geppetto’s balance of his account at the end of month in order for them to transform more bad boys into donkeys.

Find the balance of the account at the end of the 5th year, correct to the nearest cent.
Could someone please explain how to do this? I'm getting a really wonky GP. Thank youuu

Re: HSC 2015 2U Marathon

Food for thought for the guys sitting the 'Maths' (2 unit exam tomorrow)

Since 1990, there have been 17 Simpson's Rule questions, 4 Trapezoidal questions and 2 times have there been BOTH questions in the same paper.

The odds of a Simpson Rule question that pops up is a strong chance based on history.

Since the MCQ choice format was introduced in the Year 2012. There has not been a MCQ question on Simpsons or Trapezoidals.

Reckon the examiners will chuck in a Simpsons or Trapezoidals question in the multi choice tomorrow.

There was a Trapezoidal and Simpson's Rule Q in 2013 HSC 2U. See Question 15(a) on page 13: http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/hsc_exams/2013/pdf_doc/2013-hsc-maths.pdf

Edit: oh, you said multiple choice Q's.

Re: HSC 2015 2U Marathon

i)
Since BC=CD, BH=DG (since BHEC and DCFG are squares) (S)
AB= AD (sides of rhombus are equal) (S)
Since AGD and AHB are isosceles, their base angles are equal (A)
therfore, congruent by SAS

ii)
AGD = BHA (base angles of isos. + corresponding angles of congruent triangles)
therefore,
90-AGD = AGF
90-BHA = AHE

therefore equal.
