Hi, BDO has opened applications for cadetships in 'Private Clients'. I just wanted to know if anyone has had experience in working in a Private Clients team and how a cadetship in this stacks up against cadetships in more traditional or corporate areas.

What do you mean by traditional or corporate areas? private clients is a key area in most firms, certainly not the biggest, but definitely has a presence in most firms. You'll be doing more personal tax/managing a wealthy individuals tax regime, but there's room to do some audit and other services as well.

I guess what I meant to say was: would a cadetship in the private clients area be of any advantage (other than having something to write down in a cv) when going for graduate positions in audit/tax etc, compared to the other cadetships or vac jobs out there?

Yeah definitely, most of the smaller firm cadetships are private client type roles, expect with BDO you'll generally be working with some bigger clients and/or different structures. And going from a small firm cadetshipt to big4 audit/tax is actually quite common practice for these cadets. You'll have the experience and interest working for you, which is quite valued for those grad roles - that being said you'll still need to be the right fit and have the right agenda for moving for the company in question - but getting to the interview stage shouldn't be a hassle.

Jobs I've seen floating around:

1. Business Services Undergraduate/Cadet - The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in the first or second year of an accounting degree with an Australian tertiary organisation. The ideal candidate will be willing to work full time while undertaking their study (minimum of 4 days a week).

2. Undergraduate Accountant - Ideally you will have completed one or two years of your degree and be keen to gain experience working 4 days a week with full day to go and enjoy Uni.

No promises that these are still available, but they are the latest job ads I have seen to date.

- Slightly stressed out about my (new) uni timetable and other unrelated matters, job searching is one of favourite pastimes.

Bump for Insol !

If she had not been constantly posting these SEEK ads I would not be doing a cadetship :)
