Question about HSC raw marks (1 Viewer)

Hey guys, so I was viewing this and something came to my attention, and was wondering if anyone could clarify.

I noticed for some subjects, like business studies for an example, a raw mark of 71 in 2014 was aligned to a 82, which seems like quite a huge jump. And for other subjects like Math, where a 83 aligned to 88 in 2015, 84 in PDHPE aligning to 91 in 2014, and a 75 aligning to a 85 etc.

Can someone please confirm / explain if all of this is correct ?

4. Aligning a student’s raw examination mark to the standards-based reporting scale

The following simple mathematical technique is then used to align the raw examination marks to the reporting scale.

The mark that is the borderline between Band 5 and Band 6 is adjusted to 90,
the mark that is the borderline between Band 4 and Band 5 is adjusted to 80,
the mark that is the borderline between Band 3 and Band 4 is adjusted to 70,
the mark that is the borderline between Band 2 and Band 3 is adjusted to 60,
the mark that is the borderline between Band 1 and Band 2 is adjusted to 50.
A mark of 100 stays at 100 and a mark of 0 stays at 0.

It simply means the HSC judges and HSC Consultative Committee have determined that such a mark should be aligned to a mark that satisfies the band criteria. Each subject is independent of each other - what happens in Business Studies is completely independent to what happens in Mathematics.
