Okay fair enough. You could say birthdays are useful for kids (aged 0-12) because they need to have a happy childhood in order to have a happy future and for the elderly (60+) because they might never have the chance to, but those teenagers and adults should stop wasting their time, celebrating some stupid birthday because honestly what significance does it have to their life? Frickin hell. This is the time to be working, not enjoying your stupid life, seriously, no brainers need to think more outside the box (the idiots celebrating their birthdays who are teens and adults)
No christmas isn't exactly useless (well for me it is) because a majority of the population celebrate it and have a good time however your birthday is only celebrated by like 50 people or less (depends on how many people are actually willing to celebrate your birthday with you) and literally the rest of the population wouldn't celebrate your birthday because they don't know you so go fuck your birthday
Another thing which annoys the hell out of me about birthdays are "birthday wishes" (not talking about children or the elderly) are that individuals wish for all these stupid birthday wishes. Birthday wishes don't come true unless you work hard at them so what's the fucking point of wishing random crap if you don't bother to work hard? I wish to be wealthy. Too bad you're not going to be wealthy unless you work hard and earn the money. I wish to have a cute little baby. That baby ain't come until you work hard for it (don't think of it that way)
For fucks sake, what's with these individuals celebrating birthdays (expcet for kids and elderly).
Fact is, for the most part I was annoyed by the generalisation to 5+. That was so excessive.
Now, like I said, you will find that most people 25-60 don't celebrate birthdays anyhow. If they do then it's either
a) one off - could be even an employer saying go for it cause it's a weekend and there's no jobs to do for double time pay
b) kids are insistent on making their parents do it and it's the special cases e.g. multiple of 10 (but even then most adults shrug them off)
c) they're unemployed for a reason beyond their control but they have tiny amounts (e.g $2) from their own money they can use
I personally believe your argument is only valid for 13-24. Whilst I refute your views, I can actually see a proper justification for those cases.
Christmas being useless to you is your opinion, so long as like you said, it's not exactly useless cause there's other people in the world who care a lot for it.
The unique factor about birthdays is actually specifically that though - You celebrate with who you WANT to celebrate it with. Not a ton of strangers.
(This is why the type of party I DO despise is when they hold an 18th or something but end up inviting like 100 people or so and then they invite others they don't even know)
I always made birthday wishes only cause they were cute. But because I'm just twisted that way, I always made wishes about my academics lol... and yes I did study heaps after all so of course the point stands.
