Hi, my school has set quite a large amount of Holiday Work, as expected for senior study (Reading a whole Shakespeare play, a whole topic worth of Keep It Simple notes for science.. etc). So far I haven't felt motivated to get much done, partly because I'm thinking the teachers won't even check, but I'm more worried that overworking in Prelim will mean I will feel burnt out this time next year :spzz: I have organised notes for upcoming assessment tasks, which take priority in my eyes.

I want to do my best this year too, but is it worth saving some energy to give it your all in the HSC??

Thanks

tbh you don't really need to worry about burning out
just work hard, and don't do anything crazy lol
make sure you have time to relax as well
like, if you think of stress as like accumulative you want to do as much work as you can without accumulating too much
if you start to feel stressed or whatever, then just go relax or do something fun

There is a difference between doing too much which will burn you out and not doing you anything. You do have to do considerable amount of work as it is a senior year.

Because everyone tries hard in year 11 and 12

But you do need to enjoy yourself, to not burn out, and to enjoy life, because it is ephemeral!

I think the best advice I can give to you guys is to learn the philosophy-work hard, play hard-if you can do this-you won't need to worry about worrying you should be studying when you are chilling, and vice versa. Learn to study efficiently, and being honest, reading a Shakespeare play and KISS notes in a 2 week holiday period is actually very reasonable to achieve, because if you just read one Act per day, and break your work down, instead of trying to do everything at the same time, you will feel less overwhelmed and perhaps far more productive. And to think you don't need to put in your best in year 11 so that you can preserve your energy in year 12 is erroneous because study habits don't magically change from year 11 to year 12 and you also have holidays to recover and relax-so I see no reason to restrain trying your best-(and maintaining this sort of attitude in uni later in life would be problematic if you apply it to only trying your hardest when you graduate since like high school, knowledge in many subjects are often accumulative, and if you don't have a solid understanding when it is first taught, when you get to the harder stuff, you will likely not be able to aspire to a sudden acceleration of marks as if you have a magic wand to change things whenever you want). Best of luck for your senior studies:)

You will need to do a considerable amount of work to develop a good foundation knowledge in your subjects, which is important for your HSC year. However, do not overwork in the preliminary year - I overworked a basically flunked all the HSC Task 1 exams ._.

The most important subject that you need to do well in during the preliminary course is maths (general, 2u or 3u) because your preliminary knowledge is regularly used and improved on during the HSC course. Also note that 30% of your HSC maths exams consists of preliminary work.

For sciences, you must know your formulae and basic concepts (e.g. writing and balance chemical equations, speed of light/sound and how EMW work)

English: pfft most superfluous subject ever >.< just make sure you develop good essay writing skills and read!

I just barely socialise because I don't want to haha, I guess I'm at an advantage. Maybe social anxiety and introversion will be kind of helpful for the next two years.
