They made it hard for people who had pre-prepared essays and stories.
Did Genre: Science Fiction, essay was kind, and creative was definitely tricky - I felt like I was trying to revive a dead cat most of the time.

All I can say is that the exam was bs!

I did Science Fiction and whilst I thought I could work the question to my texts, the fact that they gave the exact same question about 'Light and Darkness' to every elective confused me? Like I thought it was lucky that I do Sci Fi because I could sort of relate it to that.

The Creative writing though... They basically threw everyone completely as they made us write a story using a character from our prescribed texts as a significant character? I ended up writing about Deckard and Blade Runner but set in 2055, where a rebellion sort of thing happens against the Off-world colonies (my story was told from the perspective of an off-world employee who is high up in 'the facility') and then had the unexpected meeting (2nd stimulus thing) occur between her and Deckard.

All in all, I am happy with how I went, BUT the questions threw me and I thought the lack of specificity for electives could be disadvantageous to certain electives. Also I wrote 11 pages for the essay and 7 for the Creative.

I think you've done well given the circumstances. I used Roy, but the story was so fucked (maybe just because it was cringey) - but that's hard to avoid given the stimulus.

Bostes is trying to stop people coming in with prepared responses, so I can see why they have made the questions more difficult which is good imo. But it will be interesting how it affected other modules because it worked fine with Sci-Fi

Thanks! Look at the end of the day, the stimuli made the stories have to be cringey to some extent so I'm sure you did fine yeah it worked fine for Sci Fi (but was still undesirable), but I feel other modules would have been either advantaged or disadvantaged by the question. But I was actually glad that the question eliminated prepared responses, to a certain extent.

I feel that the 'light and darkness question' for every module was outright stupid. I also did SF, and it certainly links more to that then say, comedy. I would be interested in other module opinions on how you dealt with that question? How did you approach the question - I just attempted to define my interpretation of such a vague question in the intro.

Creative I thought wasn't too difficult because they made u use the setting of a prescribed text in a previous year.

I feel the aligning will be very different for the varying modules.

I do romanticism and honestly the creative was perfect and went with my prepared response, thank goodness! My creative is in a letter format, where it generally goes like 'yo bro, i picked up this story in my travels, read it [story] did you like it?'... so I just made it like keats was writing to fanny when he was away in england

the essay was odd, but ok. i feel like the words light and dark fit well with romanticism but were very hard to distinctly define. my main issue was i forgot how to analyse my quotes and ended up rambling

I personally loved the paper! The creative stimulus fit in really well with what I had prepared and essay question was amazing HAHA

I did ATB - just talked about how individuals struggle to find hope or some coping mechanism within the cold war period, considering how shitty and depressing it is. So I sort of approached it as the period itself being a blanket of darkness and talked about how the individuals within the texts attempt to latch themselves onto certain beliefs or ideals to survive. Also did something like accepting/embracing the darkness, this becoming a 'light' in some cases. Considering the nature of the module it was manageable.

It's surprising that some people had their pre-planned responses work well!

I only had prepared similes and ideas for creative, and had done a bunch of General, Human Form and Morality essays for the essay.
I'd imagine both essay and creative would have been hard to have a memorized response for, guess not lol.

And the light and darkness thing didn't bother me, it was general enough to talk about lots of things. some in my cohort over analysed it though and it threw them.

Mine weren't so much memorised responses - but the key ideas worked really well with my quotes/analysis + stimulus was easy to slot into the general idea for my creative piece HAHA I'd be amazed if someone had a perfect memorised response for both sections :O

My cohort generally found it fine - there was one girl that looked like she was completely traumatised after the exam LOL but everyone else seemed as if they did pretty well.
