It depends on the applicants in your year but basically the system works as follows.

You do your UMAT and get your results for that. Ideally you're looking for a 90+ percentile to be offered an interview, though you might get one at about 85 percentile too. The UMAT cut-off percentile is slightly lower if you live in the Greater Western Sydney region btw, so check that out too when applying for medicine at UWS.

You will then have an MMI format interview (if you get the interview offer). You get your offer for medicine based off this interview, so long as you reach the ATAR threshold of 95.5 (i think, you can check the site to clarify) if you are non GWS or 93.5 if you are GWS.

Hope that helped!

As mentioned above, it doesn't work by a traditional cut-off system

if you are referring to the minimum atar threshold it is here

http://www.uws.edu.au/medicine/som/applying_to_medicine/mbbs

"Non Greater Western Sydney applicants - ATAR (or equivalent) of 95.5

Equivalency: IB 37 or higher; OP1 to 3; GCE of A*A*AA or higher; SAT >1840
1 semester full time undergraduate GPA = 6.5
1 year full time undergraduate GPA = 6.1
More than 1 year but uncompleted undergraduate GPA = 6.0
Completed undergraduate degree GPA = 5.6
Completed Graduate Certificate = 6.5
Completed Graduate Diploma = 6.1
Completed Masters (coursework) = 5.6
Greater Western Sydney applicants - ATAR (or equivalent) of 93.5

Equivalency: IB 35 or higher; OP 1 to 4, GCE of A*AAA or higher;
1 semester full time undergraduate GPA = 6.0
1 year full time undergraduate GPA = 5.7
More than 1 year but uncompleted undergraduate GPA = 5.5
Completed undergraduate degree GPA = 5.1
Completed Graduate Certificate = 6.0
completed Graduate Diploma = 5.7
Completed Masters (coursework) = 5.1"

Med is really competitive. Just aim for a 99+ atar and a 90+ umat score for a good chance at most universities.

86 umat wasn't good enough for me to get an interview so try to get at least > 90 umat. My S3 was the strongest though (which they weighted the least) so others who got similar umat but better S1 and S2 might have got interviews.

I'm in 1st year Uni with ATAR 99.05 (HSC 2015), WAM 82.5 and UMAT of 94
Are there any chances if I can get any interview from UWS, UNSW or UoN?
Many thanks in advance

I think for UWS med you only need 95 ATAR and interview+UMAT as well

They don't count section 3 at all anymore

A person I know got into UWS med with a 94 atar.
I got 94.75 and an 86th percentile UMAT
My UMAT marks were:
1. 76
2. 47
3. 57

Overall - 60
Percentile - 86

So you're in UWS medicine now with 86th percentile? Thought they'd mainly accept 90+

That's a crazy good section 1 though

They used to do "weighted scores" (section 1 + section 2 + half of section 3)
Now I think they just use section 1 and 2 added
[someone on the admissions board a few years ago was ~ambiguously~ telling me they didn't like one of the UMAT sections and were changing the entry criteria]

I've actually just been offered a job as a doctor next yr, so I'm glad 86th was good enough lol
I know a few people (advanced science stream) who got in with less.
