How many marks worth of questions did you not know how to answer, and how many marks worth of silly mistakes do you think you guys made?
I knew how to answer all of them, I think silly mistakes hopefully not more than 5. I think I have a chance to lose another 4 marks, say, for the rest maybe because the markers may mark extra harsh.

So 90+ raw?

Ugh I know that I lost like 5 marks for sure, and me and my friends basically recalled every question. I think I did everything else alright, and accounting for perhaps some marks lost because of harsh markers or something, Im hoping for 90 raw. I go to a selective school, accelerated chem.

I knew how to do everything, but I honestly didn't know what the last question was asking. They could be looking for an in-depth description of esterification, or spectroscopic techniques, or just the chemical tests and process.

Idk man that last question was too ambiguous for me

Damn, regardless you should be very proud of yourself accelerating a new syllabus, gj!

Na probably 4 marks for naming all the compounds and 3 for justifying each step and its reagents and conditions

OH YES your right, so it was chloroethane to ethanol and then ethanoic acid, then esterification to ethyl ethanoate right???
I dont think I named chloroethane lol
Yep. Dw as long as you described the steps you’ll probs get a 6/7

Shouldnt there also be marks allocated for the methods in which the compounds can be identified?
I included that in my definition of “steps“ but yeah. Those are sorta basic, sodium + pop test for alcohol, sodium carb for acid and fruity smell for ester

would you say the exam was more maths than theory? if so how much roughly like was it basically all maths?
