Why are tutoring places like ACE so popular anyway, is it because of the questions/resources/marking criteria or teachers or what?????

Shit teachers at school result in people not fully understanding concepts, hence they go to ACE, Sigma, NGO, etc. On top of that the additional resources and questions also help in preparation, others do it to get ahead in class.

why do people not go to @jazz519 i think he would teach better than any of those university kids and his resources wouldn't be bad in comparision

It’s mainly about the brand that has been built over many years with word of mouth. That usually assures parents (who usually fork the money) that they are safe bets in terms of value for money.

There may be tutors out there that are genuinely better quality but without the brand they are often unknown quantities so they are perceived as a risky bet to sink your money and your kid’s time into.

Because the tutoring centres offer specialist courses for the school that those students are going to (e.g. Baulko classes for ACE)

Well to be fair I am doing quite well for a private tutor and do have a lot of students that come to me. I commonly have to turn away at least 15 people a year when my classes are full and people request spots so there is a demand.

As Trebla said it is to do with brand image as well. The way the tutoring centres advertise looks appealing to parents as they place emphasise on the high marks that the students at the centre have achieved. I went to a tutoring centre for a subject or two when I did HSC and overall it was a positive experience, although it was pretty expensive.

There are a lot of tutors out there who may be better than what is offered at the tutoring centre, but the large majority of how they obtain students isn't through constant advertising like the centres do. Most of the students I get for example are through word of mouth recommendation from past students I have had.
