A little context
I am a year 10 student studying society and culture as an accelerated course. Meaning that I'll be doing prelim this year term 3 and HSC exam next year for SAC as a year 11.

We submitted our mini PIPS 2 weeks ago and people are getting their grades, but I'm seeing some are getting below 50%. I haven't got my mark yet, but I guess I am expecting around the same 50-60s.

So I'm very scared considering sac doesn't scale well unless you do really good.

I'm wondering what I should be preparing for prelims and 2021 HSC SAC? What are some tips to get ready and write my PIP? Any good Pip topics?

currently I have an idea of doing the 79' Iranian revolution and it's effects on Iranians worldwide

Hi there! Don't be too worried about year 11 marks as they don't count for your HSC.

To start, your teacher seems like they're marking quite harshly - generally people do decent in SAC given they put in a reasonable amount of effort. But if your mini PIP doesn't do too well - that's totally fine. I would recommend doing a different topic to your mini PIP, as it will bring a fresh perspective, and you can start from scratch, rather than having to evolve your previous work and mould it into something a bit different.

For prelims, just make sure you've got your concepts down pat, and have some examples memorised. In terms of the HSC, make sure you know your syllabus back to front, and have some flexible examples that go with everything (this can be done ahead of time). This way, you won't be regurgitating a premade essay, you'll be writing all the stuff that comes to your mind naturally.

In terms of good PIP topics - the best PIP topic to do is one that you enjoy. It might sound cliche, but you'll be able to bring about an informed perspective and will be motivated to work on it. As with English creatives, sometimes it is better to avoid "darker" topics as 1) you will have to undertake safe and ethical PRIMARY research and this may impede that, and 2) it will be difficult to convey your findings in an authentic way which properly deals with the topic. The "5 A's" (abortion, anorexia, abuse, addiction, anxiety) are topics that you might want to steer clear of.

Regarding your PIP idea - how are you going to explore it on the micro/meso/macro levels of society, and how are you going to examine a cross-cultural perspective? If you can answer those 2 questions clearly, you've got a PIP!

I just found out that it is a cross cultural studies between 2 generations. Do you have any topic ideas?

Try to brainstorm some things you're interested in - whether it be things related to media like the impact of television, is the new truly news or maybe pop culture like the evolution of music, fashion etc. (These are just surface level ideas and what first came to mind. If you're still stuck, branch off your course concepts!)

When you get around 3-5 ideas (at least), try to connect them to another culture/generation and how it relates to micro, meso and macro levels of society.
