Advice for doing 3 science courses. (1 Viewer)

This is probs a silly question but is it advisable I should do 3 science courses for year 11? If so what are tips, thanks.

The 3 sciences as a whole is actually quite well rounded. Physics with the mathematical calculations, biology with the content dense learning, chemistry with the combination of calculations and content. Personally for a person who enjoys mathematical calcs, I chose physics and chem. For others who enjoy content, they'd choose bio and chem. In summary, it's up to your preference if you think you can do all three.

As far as I know, 3 is the maximum number of Science subjects that a student can take in Stage 6, meaning that there is certainly an implication of this being the maximum number, which is that such a decision must be carefully considered. Taking 3 Science subjects in years 11 and 12 will most likely require a high level of focus, organisation and time management, particularly if the student wishes to achieve favourable results in each of those subjects. The student will need to be regularly studying and staying up to date with content across all 3 Science subjects, allowing them to ensure good performance in assessment tasks and exams. This can only be done through the ability to demonstrate consistent focus, organisation, time management, and a willingness to put in the effort and being determined to maintain this commitment with the aim of ensuring optimal performance.

A friend of mine does the 3 sciences. She enjoys it quite a lot but she's pretty smart and hardworking given that. If you have a passion for sciences, why not?

Does your friend stress out since I heard these are too much work to handle?.

I’m someone who does 3 sciences. And it’s perfectly fine. Make sure to thrown in pdhpe or business studies though so you have other options for university

no but shes not doing as well as in physics as she is in bio/chem and shes in the top 5 for maths. She doesn't study to death but she definitely works extremely hard just to cope with the workload because she once had 3 depth studies at the same time bio, chem, phys lol.

no but shes not doing as well as in physics as she is in bio/chem and shes in the top 5 for maths. She doesn't study to death but she definitely works extremely hard just to cope with the workload because she once had 3 depth studies at the same time bio, chem, phys lol.

I think that the best approach to address any speculation would be to actually take 3 Science subjects as you start year 11 and then deciding whether to keep all 3, drop one (or more) as well as determine the best combination of Science subjects to maintain (if applicable) as part of your whole subject selection going into year 12. This will depend on your results in each of those subjects throughout year 11 as well as which subjects you feel you enjoy/like or dislike by then.

She's pretty smart and really hardworking, she used to get 100s in science and maths in my junior years. Her physics marks is not as good (even though shes decent at maths) and shes really good in adv and ext. She got 3 depth studies at once lol so she had to manage bio, physics, chem but then again she's coming first in bio and chem but I've been consistently beating her in all the subjects we share; I honestly think she would've done better with 2 sciences than 3 because the depth studies are brutal, especially 3, I feel like its necessary to have a sorta bludge subject.

I think you might benefit from doing 2 sciences and 1 bludgeish (sorry :<) subject because in that way you can put less effort into one subject and put it more into other subjects such as maths or english.

Yeah you have to be built different to do 3 depth studies at once, 1 depth study is enough as it is

I think you might benefit from doing 2 sciences and 1 bludgeish (sorry :<) subject because in that way you can put less effort into one subject and put it more into other subjects such as maths or english.

That's what I've got: chem + bio + pdh
PD and bio go hand in hand in some parts. I wouldn't necessarily say 'bludge' subject, more so a subject you know you can do well in without putting as much effort as everything else. And yeah, it's definitely worth putting a lot more effort into English because its the only mandatory subject across the state

I'm doing ext math for physics, but I need to cover one unit.

I did 3 sciences in year 11 and absolutely couldn’t handle the workload.

However I have a friend who was able to do all three and she enjoyed it as well, but she was also a lot more disciplined and organised than I am in managing her time and workload.

Do you have to write like an extended response and some stressful assessments like depth study mentioned before?

English is always counted, and if you stuff up english, no matter how well you do in your other subjects...your ATAR likely won't be as high
And fixing up your writing will come from practise. You'll see yourself improve. I mean heck, beginning of year 11 I thought my writing was great when in reality I wasn't meeting the band 6 I was aiming for. Fast forward and my essay writing now had improved dramatically in less than 3 terms.
