teachers just posted our marks and i royally screwed up (as expected, i couldn't be bothered to prepare). idk what my rank is but by guesswork it's probably in the bottom 25% of my grade. my only saving grace is our yearlies which are weighted the most when calculating overall ranks and stuff, which is important because you need to be in like the top 50 rank or something to do mx2. can i make a comeback in my yearlies and somehow jump ranks so much so that i can do mx2 next year 😭

Are you bottom 25% of the grade for maths? If so, it might be a little bit worrying. Suppose your cohort is like 150 people, that means ur current ranked around 110ish. To jump 60 ranks from just one test, you will need to pray its really difficult so that the median is incredibly low and you do really well. What percentage is the yearlies may I ask? When we had our yearlies in yr11 it was 40% so it might be doable, but anything lower than 30% might be a little hard.

see that’s the thing idk my rank, i can only guess because we haven’t been told yet. but i’m pre sure our yearlies are either 40% or 45%

If its 40-45% then it is doable, but u will need at roughly a top 10 mark to cancel out ur ranks rn

That is still better than if it was worth 30%, because even if u get rank1 it might not be able to pull u to top 50

it's going to be very difficult for you to get to the top of your cohort.

being realistic, mx2 is a fair bit harder than mx1, you'd have to modify your approach towards exams a fair bit to go well in mx2.
if you prove to yourself & your maths faculty you can put in the effort though unless they're legalistic they are likely to let you in to mx2.

nvm it’s actually top 40% to get into mx2, which i just calculated gives me a bit more wiggle room rankswise

I was in a similar situation as u in yr11. I was always ranked in the bottom 30s in maths before yr11, and never though I'd be able to do mx2. But I guess i just popped off for some of the tests and hey now its dragging up my atar so I cant complain 😂

Otherwise, Good Luck for ur studies and exams!

here goes my rant o_O
english went smoothly, probably the only subject I feel like I couldn't have gotten any better. tho i didn't do any practice, i just sat the test on the day lmao (idk if that was a good idea, i just cbf cus i spent the previous wk purely on memorising)
maths was ggs, 3u i bombed the test so hard that my rank from last test vs this test is prolly gonna drop by >60  4u i think im climbing, tho there was about 5 marks which i couldve gotten 🤷‍♂️ anything above b6 is good enough tho
physics was kinda free, i thought i got like 95+ but now looking back i made some careless errors where i forgot to convert units😭 i'll be happy w 90+ or as long as its above median
engineering is the only subject which i have no clue at, since theres only like 20 people doing the subject and everyone is kinda spread out, theres rly no way to judge. some people say the test was okay, some said they flopped, teachers said the test was lethal before we entered the exam room but who knows, ill be happy if i went up by 2 ranks tho

if all went well, and i didnt happen to like miss questions/fail terribly then my atar went up by like 0.5ish which i will take cus i did like zero prep
engi i studied everything in 2 days....and phys....and 4u...and 3u 😂
