Wagner was Hitler's favourite composer and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre is doing Der Ring des Nibelungen in December.

Futhermore Wagner's music was used extensively by the Nazi's

Do you think it is appropriate that the Queensland Performing Arts Centre put on this Nazi musical extravaganza?

Hitler was quite friendly with the Wagner family for example this photo with Wagner's grandchildren:

While the Nazi party used Wagner's music and Wagner's ancestors were quite close to Hitler, Wagner himself wasn't even alive when Hitler was born and Der Ring des Nibelungen was written in 1857 so it's almost impossible that Wagner wrote it as a piece of Nazi propaganda or to show his support of the Nazi party unless he had a time machine.

So imo it is okay for Queensland Performing Arts Centre to be putting it on if they wanted to put on a very popular and significant opera. But if they're using it to push some Nazi agenda then that's where it becomes inappropriate.

wasn't Wagner also antisemitic? Either way I personally think that they should still put it on because of significance (I'm biased)

That's a very good point. There is a good reason why Hitler and the Nazi's loved Wagner so much. Antisemitism is much older than the Nazi's and it is evident in much of Wagner's works. Wagner's music was banned in Israel in 1938 and has been banned ever since.

hahahah you fragile little dork

the ring cycle is one of the greatest works of art ever produced

its not a 'nazi music extravaganza'

and its 'nazis', not 'nazi's'

Do you want to ban Kanye's music? You know, a living breathing musician who praised Hitler and is not a fan of the jews? Or just dead white artists?
