If I’m studying at USYD and I want to do an internal transfer but I’m unable to due to a low Wam. Is the best solution, is to do external transfer out to another uni? And then transfer back into the course I want to at USYD? Or what over options do i have?

And if so, would UAC just base the results into my new uni. Or would it also take into consideration of the marks I’ve acquired at USYD previously to calculate if I would get an offer or not? does scaling matter or not? eg. certain unis? certain electives?

You could attempt an internal transfer to a different course at USyd, perform well in that course, and then transfer to your desired course internally again. However, this would mean studying an unrelated degree, which would likely undermine recognition of prior learning and in turn force you to start your desired course at an unnecessarily early point. Based on this, attempting an external transfer to a related course at a different university, performing well in that course, and subsequently transferring to the equivalent course at USyd would be a better course of action, especially since it is more likely for USyd to recognise your previous studies in a similar course at a different university compared to an unrelated course.

In terms of your UAC application, it depends on the documents that you provide. If you believe that your studies at USyd may be helpful in receiving an offer, you may wish to include relevant documents in addition to those from your studies at the other university. If not, you may wish to solely include relevant documents from your studies at the other university. Essentially, USyd will only consider your university results if you have completed at least one year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent). Regarding particular calculations and adjustments that may be applied in certain units (such as scaling), USyd would consider your final marks for the units that you have completed, that is after such calculations/adjustments have been applied.

Hey, I wanted to ask. I received my finalized results for university just recently. However, I am concerned I won't recieve any results because of university results coming at the same time as HSC results. Will I still stand a chance?

Sorry, could you please clarify? Are you saying that you already received your university results, or that you are about to receive them but are unsure whether you would receive them if they are being released concurrently with HSC results?

Essentially, universities are not connected to NESA or UAC in terms of results release. This means that universities can choose to release student results for an academic period whenever they see fit, which can occur on the same day as HSC results.

Oh I meant like, so I just received my university results, however the first round that I can finally compete in to swap universities fall on the same date as students who receive their atar. Not sure if there's information surrounding this, but are my chances reduced because of the HSC students as well? I'd assume they'd take first priority.

The answer to this question may vary depending on the specific university and degree. If a university chooses to focus only on making offers to year 12 students in the offer round that follows ATAR release, then it is unlikely that you will receive an offer during that offer round. On the other hand, if a university chooses to make offers to both year 12 students and current university students in the offer round following ATAR release, then your chances will depend on how closely you meet the criteria for a transfer.

Such factors may be influenced by the amount of places available for a degree. Different degrees have a different number of places available and your chances may be higher if you are applying for a degree with a higher number of available places.

If you already have a qualification we can assess, universities can make you an offer whenever they are ready to start filling places in their courses. This could be before they make offers to Year 12 students, or they may wait and make offers to all applicants at the same time. Therefore, you might not know the outcome of your application for a semester 1 course until late December or early January.

If you are completing tertiary studies this year, your results will usually be available for assessment in time for January Round 1 offers.
