hi guys,
i've just started year 12 this term and i'm currently on 12 units. my subjects are 3u eng, 3u maths, chem, eco and modhis. i would ideally like to drop to 11 or 10 units because having a whole subject that won't count to my hsc seems ridiculous. english extension has been on the chopping block for a while and last week we did a practice task 1 for lit worlds and i genuinely could not come up with a narrative. i wrote half a narrative and i could barely produce a reflection because of how terrible it was, i basically mentally gave up on the entire subject halfway through. i'm terrible at creative writing and i know i can't really avoid it with mod c but i would like to minimise the amount i have to do something i'm bad at for the hsc. overall, i feel very lost in the subject and i don't really understand all the different bits of literary theory we're learning in comparison to advanced where i feel like i understand everything and am a lot more prepared for the content. however, i do enjoy the class because a bunch of my friends are in it and i love my teacher because she's very nice and funny though not great at teaching.
my year 11 rank turned out surprisingly well despite the fact i got an 11/15 for my first narrative because i redeemed it with essay writing and irp. i ended up 6/56 overall without having put much effort into the course - at least not as much as i have for maths extension. it feels silly to drop a subject that i have such a good rank in. i also know it's good to do extra units of english because your best 2 units of english count and extension 1 scales better than advanced so often it's half of advanced (1 unit) that doesn't count.
i'm not sure if i should at least wait until after task 1? but i also don't want having to practice my creatives take away time from all my other subjects. having 3 study periods a week instead of a fortnight is also a bit tantalising although i know a lot of others also doing 12 units.
