  • I'm not being sarcastic or anything, I'm just saying that Iron seems to be treating you with more respect than he treats others, or at least others who he doesn't know.
How can I apply any evidence when we're talking about faith? It's a living thing and not easily put into words... You say that my God does not exist, but in the same breath state that there is a faint chance that he does, so whatever. We can do this back and forth i'm-right-and-youre-wrong-because-I-say-so nonsense, but it wont get anywhere for either of us.
Let's just be friends who respect eachother's intelligence and ignore eachother's beliefs (or lack thereof)...
Because if you view yourself as the only depository of truth in the world, this will stop you from interacting with others in a rich and meaningful way; you will be inclined to view their humanity as less significant than yours. This can only mean isolation for you and perhaps great damage to those around you who offer you nothing but love - the very same love which is God
Any attempt to find truth subjectively, within yourself, will lead to ruin. Do not deny the objective and absolute truth, my fren! Do not snuff out the candle!

Keep it flickering, for your sake and the whole world's
Lol sure. I dont seek to judge you fren. But I do have to respond to your comment on the clergy by saying that the whole point of faith is to believe in something beyond one's self. We accept that priests and bishops and religious are sinners - all men are. If any of those in positions of such moral authority do seriously sin, then it is a great tragedy and one in which they will dearly pay - moreso than the lay-person. However it does not harm the Truth that is greater than the man. We look beyond this world and all its faults for true guidance
    Dear Plodygon,

Iron is Catholic. The pope controls his brain. Talking to him is mostly unproductive, and is usually a precursor to unfortunate romantic liaisons.

Better to steer clear of him entirely.

    Best wishes, SP
I disagree; that's how people remain lost and confused. They do stupid and hurtful things as a result.

Look, i've spent my time in the wilderness, i've wandered the desert and I know the isolation of having no foundation in your life other than yourself. But having reached the fertile mountain, I can state my beliefs with confidence and joy. It is true freedom and I hope that you will feast on it one day. In the meantime, I wouldnt insist that you do anything and, like I said in the thread, I dont push my internet views in real life because as a Christian love must be the basis of all our actions, for God is love.
For the record, I did not feel shut down or surprised by any of the points raised. But what you bring is an energy and articulation which usually lacks in the current ncap. And ofc, as Locky says, this will serve you well in law
Some form of congratulations are in order, iron is rarely shut down that well, or hard, and I haven't seen someone your age manage it before. That kind of skill will stand you in good stead for a field like law. Oh and iron is final year law at ANU so you're already rolling it with some of the best.

    Kudos and welcome aboard :)
