    MQ Chatter Thread

It was actually up at the start of the year, but they only made it mandatory for semester 2 despite plans to do it in sem 1. It looks like the MQ one might be the same course as the UTS one, iirc the UTS course was develped by some UK + AU based professionals so it'd make sense if the same...

    UTS Bachelor of business

The bachelor of business at UTS is equivalent to a commerce degree at other universities. UTS called it a business degree to align itself with unis overseas. Some other univerisites (mostly interstate), offer both business and commerce degrees however and in these cases the business degree is...

Is UTS Engineering 1 year internship worth it?

I did exactly that, and have no regrets. I effectively swapped to part time and worked full time since second year when I did my internship. This would have been difficult (maybe impossible) to do for such a long amount of time at UNSW or USYD, so the practical nature of the subjects as well as...

    Engineering for a shy guy?

Engineering, as with most other STEM majors, will consist of some of the shyest students at university lol. It's definitely something you should work on and try to overcome to some extent while studying, but I don't think engineering requires any special consideration for this.

Is UTS Engineering 1 year internship worth it?

You're not given a 1 year long internship, you have to find 2x 6 month internships yourself with support from the university. I think it's worthwhile as many people secure jobs from one of these internships, and some people begin working while studying as a result of that first internship in...

Computer science at UTS UNSW or USYD...your experiences/opinions?

Think of Data Engineering as a cousin to Software Engineering. Most of the data engineering majors and a different software major used to be under "ICT Engineering" which was discontinued in favour of Data Engineering + Software Engineering a few years ago. Computer Science and Software...

Computer science at UTS UNSW or USYD...your experiences/opinions?

Doubt this is true, I know someone at Microsoft who graduated from UTS about 3 years ago. I believe Microsoft don't do development in Australia anymore however

UTS networking essentials vs networking fundamentals

You can do whichever one you like, they are anti-requisites of each other. This split is a carry over from when the IT and engineering faculty were separate. A long time ago there were even separate subjects for programming fundamentals etc. When I did them (~6 years ago), they were...

    UTS Results - 2018 Autumn

Haha, that's pretty shit - did they mark it individually or your group? I lost my mark to a completely unexpected 4 mark exam question. It's kind of amazing I got 99 looking back though, I had to skip all of the lectures and had a really tight exam schedule that semester.

    UTS Results - 2018 Autumn

Awesome, good job! Haha, do you know what you lost that mark for? I've always wanted 100 in a subject, got 99 in Embedded C a few years ago and haven't been able to top it haha. Got a couple of 97s and a 98 though.

    UTS Results - 2018 Autumn

I'll start. Both HDs in my penultimate semester, just two subjects left! High 90s in my first Capstone subject, and scraped into the 90s in a subject i've been dreading for years (Signal Theory, now Information and Signals).

    UTS Results - 2018 Autumn

Results officially come out tomorrow morning, but many of you probably noticed them up on Friday night. Are you happy with your results?

Arguments, Evidence and Intuition - Summer School

I haven't done it myself, but a few mates did it a few years ago as an elective and thought it was good. Not sure about the dificulty sorry. If it's your only subject, and the contact hours line up with your internship schedule, I wouldn't worry about being too busy with a single subject...

    Updated UTS GPAs Out!

The GPA trick/glitch is now working, you can access your updated GPA and credit points gained by requesting a transcript on the results section of MyStudentAdmin. This has worked reliably for many semesters.

UTS Eng + Diploma Prof. Prac (drop the diploma?)

Engineers Australia requires 12 weeks experience anyway, so the courses without the diploma (Intl students + combined degrees) require that instead. Officially, the Practice Program guide is quite explicit about it not being opt out and only the courses above not needing it.

    why

Thanks for bringing it to our attention, i've added some more options.

    BBus VS BBus/BSc IT

It's mostly down to supply/demand, and I guess which faculty the course is primarily part of. BBus/BSc IT it a longer course and you only get one business major if i remember correctly, while BBus is 3 years and you have 2 business majors.

    First Year I.T. subjects

Network Fundamentals and essentials are basically the same subject, fundamentals is done by ICT Eng students while essentials is done by IT students. Some courses let you pick which one you want to do. There may be minor differences but when I did fundamentals they had the same coordinator. It...

CS & IT degrees worth it at UTS?

That's an interesting point actually. For engineering at least, the subjects were free and worth no credit points. It actually caused problems with concession - not a big problem for travel, but it had pretty big implications for people receiving centrelink I believe. So I believe the subjects...

UTS Entry Help B Business B Engineering

I'd say you have pretty good chances, but they may also consider your uni results (uni results convert favourably to ATAR, so dw too much about this) Low 80s would likely get an offer if you'd just finished school by the time you consider all of the bonus points (subject bonus points...
