Question regarding the Syllabus for English

You need to refer to the second document which is the new HSC prescriptions for 2015-2020. PAGE 9 of this document outlines the requirements for the new Area of Study 'Discovery'. You will also need the Module/Elective outlines relevant to the ones your teacher has chosen for your class...

Question regarding the Syllabus for English

Perhaps 'teacher input' could be posted for all students to see. I don't know why a question regarding the publicly available HSC syllabus needs to be private.

    poem for discovery

There are lots of suggestions of poems that can be used as related texts for 'discovery' at www.hscdiscovery.com.au :) Not a lot of students use poems as related texts, instead opting for films which can be quite difficult as you need to analyse film techniques as well

Related Texts for Michael Gow's "Away"

Your related text does NOT have to be on the same 'theme' as your core text ie. cancer. As long as your can discuss/relate/analyse the CONCEPT of discovery, by comparing the representation of this concept in both texts, you'll be fine. That said, have a look at www.hscdiscovery.com.au as it...

Re: Need a literal related short story text for the concept of "discovery" asap !!?!? Have a look at www.hscdiscovery.com.au for lots of related text suggestions. What is your prescribed text? Edgar Allen Poe's 'The Tell-Tale Heart' is a good short story for discovery, and Jospeh Conrad's...

    poem for discovery

DEFINITELY 'Invictus'. It is a highly regarded classic and W.E Henley is a well-respected poet. The Hunger Games is often studied by classes in Year 9 and 10 and is also over-used.

Need help in choosing a discovery toyoc

Songs are not very highly regarded by HSC markers and they do not often show a depth of language, nor do they provide enough quality for academic analysis in the HSC exam. Poems are a very underestimated texts; they are studied explicity in Module B 'Close Study' and 'Critical Study' and the...

    poem for discovery

Poems as related texts are highly regarded by HSC markers so I would not be advising people to steer clear of them. Poetry can be quite dense and expressive, using a variety of techniques and tones, as well as adding a variety of creative vocabulary to your essays. PM me for more info about...

Can anyone contribute any ideas about discovery based on the tempest???

The Tempest is actually a very good text for discovery as it covers a LOT of the rubric and will give you heaps to discuss in essays, IF you prepare well. These include: DISCOVERY CONCEPTS in 'The Tempest' - European voyages | Opening up the world - Self-discovery & personal growth -...

Could I do Frances Hodgson Burnett's A little princess as my related text?

Whilst it's a classic text, I wouldnt use it as a related; it has simplistic language, and whilst this can be a deliberate literary technique used by some authors it doesnt really allow for a sophisticated analysis. Have a look at www.hscdiscovery.com.au if youre looking for some 'outside the...

    'DISCOVERY' related texts

Unfortunately you CANNOT use 'A Beautiful Mind' [film directed by Ron Howard] as a related text as it is a prescribed text for Standard English Module B 'Close Study of Text' :(
  18. E

    'DISCOVERY' related texts

It wont be marked 'a bit easier'. Every cohort is marked based on their individual analysis of the prescribed and related texts and how well they answer the question. The fact that there is a new AOS will not change this.

    'DISCOVERY' related texts

Be very careful about relying on 'Journeys' resources for 'Discovery'; the rubrics are quite different

    Question ?

To be completely honest, it's not something you should be worrying about. Stressing, or even wondering, aboout something as small as that is not going to help you prepare for the exams - in fact it is likely to increase your in-test anxiety. Marks are awarded for overall cohesiveness (I'm a...
