Yeah I completely agree! Making pretty notes does not constitute complete preparation for exams. You need to find your own way of remembering your notes and putting the theory to practice with past exam papers.

Personally, I used Dixon as my textbook for basic concepts and Riley as a supplementary textbook to enhance my knowledge of the larger topics. Riley tends to have more statistics and historical content so if you are not settled on the concepts I'd recommend sticking with Dixon.
