Thanks Ben, I'd like to go to MQ because of travel and I got early entry into advanced science (through a program where I completed a people and planet unit). Doubt I'm going to get a 96 haha Why was yours not going to work out? Ik adv math and commerce aren't a double degree already, which is...

    MQ Chatter Thread

Hey guys, I have a few questions about MQ and would appreciate any answers. 1. What are the business faculty staff or the science (maths) faculty staff like? Good lecturers, fair markers, helpful etc.? 2. Does anyone have any experience doing Advanced Science (preferably specialisation in...

Anyone have any experience with the Merit Scholarship or know how difficult it is to get once you've already started a degree? (i.e. if you don't get the 98.5+ ATAR/don't get it after finishing school - applying with first year results) Also, I'd appreciate anyone who could give me advice on...

    Laptop in HSC exam???

legitimate question: why does anxiety not allow you to have a scribe? I had a friend who had bad anxiety and a problem in her shoulder, who had to use a scribe (+ breaks in between). I've never known someone who was allowed to use a laptop.

Congratulations on your results! How much do the legal notes cost?

    How many performances? (music 2)

Oh, right, that's annoying :/ I've been thinking about comp portfolio layout for a while, but then I realised the best thing is just to document every single thing I do on it, to make it more comprehensive and just show heaps of though process. E.g. marking criteria breakdown, include the...

    Roll Call: Class of 2018

Not sure if it's too late, but MQ Uni does this thing where you do 2 of their units and if you get distinction (75%+) in both of them you get early entry into a selection of degrees (including Advanced Science). I finished it this term and found that it's not too difficult. Totally recommend...

studying 10 hours a day is right or wrong

Adding on to what everyone else has already said... Based on what you've said, it looks like you're doing this just to catch up. I definitely wouldn't say it's healthy, but you'll definitely be less stressed by the time you catch up, and it'll be more beneficial for when you're learning the...

Cambridge Checkpoints vs ATAR Notes book

Not 100% sure but I think Legal Studies & Modern History checkpoints is just past HSC questions arranged by topic. I think Cambridge does sell normal textbooks as well but in my experience, a lot of what they include is unnecessary for learning the syllabus. For English, checkpoints is not...

    Books or binders?

Hey, I realised that what worked for me while I didn't take my laptop to school was to make class & textbook notes on paper (usually random A4 or loose paper that I'd find) and then have a sleeve for each subject. Then I'd write actual syllabus notes & subject summaries (both based on what...

    How many performances? (music 2)

That's really weird. I'm pretty sure you have to perform 2 electives + 1 core internally and then again for HSC... We're doing core performance and comp portfolio first (for term 1 & 2) and then all elective stuff (2 pieces) + aural exam for trial. You should probably ask your teacher about that.

I honestly think term 1 of year 12 (first term 4) should be a 'get ready' term where we get heaps of content, resources etc. and then assessments start term 1. 2 weeks is not enough to recover from end of year 11. Not to mention how busy term 4 is (extra-curriculars, assemblies etc).

I found Critical Thinking to be pretty helpful. Helps you make stronger arguments in general.
