A Short History of Nearly Everything - Bill Bryson

I've read this book and I did enjoy it cos I love science but I would hate doing this as a text for English. No techniques and it does get pretty repetitive in its tone after a while. Just sorta listing discoveries and dropping names that you won't remember one after the after. Honestly...

What did you buy directly after you finished your last exam

One of my friends tried convincing me Peroni is a good beer. So I shouted them a case. It is not. Stick with Coronas ladies and gents.

    HSC Graduates ! HSCyaLater :D

still have physics on tomorrow but i'm on my break so i'll have a crack atar aim was - 99.60 feelings after walking out of exams: english advanced - quite good, but then realising i was ranked second in the course and everyone else in my cohort (including the guy coming first) thinking they did...

Very simple q but is my answer too wordy?

A q like "Explain why a magnet slows down when dropped through a copper tube" - 1mk My answer: "Faraday's law of induction states that relative motion between a conductor and a magnetic field induces an emf in the conductor equal in magnitude to the rate of change of flux. The induced emf gives...

Q that's most definitely not supposed to be in a past HSC...

no i didn't cos that would only further destroy my confidence :/ oh well either 1) my internal rank will carry 2) it won't count such is life

Past HSC'ers: How did you results reflect your expectations?

expecting or hoping for? saying you're hoping for a .95 is fine. saying you're expecting a .95 is pretentious as fuark. Not even the people who get .95 are expecting a .95

    Anyone with a >80% chance of 99.95?

LOL mreditor for sure. Who's his gang? So far I think Mreditor has: - Already state ranked eco (accelerated last year) - Just pulled 100% in 3U - Gotten a 98 or 99 in 4U As long as he B6's English and Phys (which he will) he's set for a .95 No pressure tho.

Q that's most definitely not supposed to be in a past HSC...

Nowhere in the syllabus are we required to know TWO current applications of superconductors. One is obviously Maglev. Success One uses the LHC in the sample answer but nope, nowhere in the syllabus. We do learn about POTENTIAL uses e.g. motors and generators, power transmission lines...

    Two MC questions

That's the right hand curl rule for solenoids right? (fingers curl in direction of current, thumb points to north pole) I don't get how that works in this case :/
  14. emilios

    Two MC questions

^ I got the answer out for this (it was A) but that was before I considered the implication of Lenz's Law. We don't apply Lenz's law here do we? Since the cathode ray tube isn't a conductor. And for this one: I've narrowed it down to A and C since they're the only ones that would give me...

Past HSC'ers: How did you results reflect your expectations?

makes me feel better. confirms that sciences are the devil though.

Past HSC'ers: How did you results reflect your expectations?

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to mreditor16 again.

Past HSC'ers: How did you results reflect your expectations?

sorry that's why i posted in the 2014 discussion :P most of us are done now + most of us are 18 so we can just drink away any sorrows
  18. emilios

Past HSC'ers: How did you results reflect your expectations?

That's the thing lol I already know I lost 4 marks for Chem. Bring the marking criteria into play and you're therefore looking at -34 LOL I'm ranked first internally for most of my subs but ranking don't mean shit in a non-selective public school.
  19. emilios

Past HSC'ers: How did you results reflect your expectations?

Most people I speak to got below what they were expecting esp for the Sciences: where most expected a 80 raw in Chem they ended up getting 65. This is really disheartening to me tbh. Was anyone pleasantly surprised or was it mostly just disappointment? I need to know so I can adjust my...

Carrotsticks' 2014 Extension 1 HSC Solutions

One way of solving this q was just by doing x^2 + y^2, which you could then notice was equal to 2ay. Your method is essentially the same. Let's hope the HSC markers aren't feeling bitchy, I think that's potential for 3/3 since the question specified you could use an 'otherwise' method.
