No, distance between is x and the stars must be on the same circle (and are a diameter across, on opposite sides of the circle) for gravity to pull each star to the middle of the circle and act centripetally

Equate centripetal with grav as both stars on the same circle Gotta remember r in centripetal is x/2 and r in grav is x, I forgot this so rip
