ATAR is way off the estimations

No, they almost certainly have it correct. You should be smart enough to realise that ATAR calculators are based on the scaling of previous years, not this year. Scaling is carried out afresh each year. You just happened to not be as good as your peers in one or more subjects. The sooner you...

    ATAR Lower than Calculators?

Scaling is carried out afresh each and every year. The scaling in 2017 had zero impact on the scaling in 2018. Scaling is only dependent on the strength of the cohort, not the difficulty of the exam. If a subject scaled better, it meant that students in that subject had higher marks on average...

ATAR so much lower than expected :/

Neither scaled poorly. You were largely affected by your marks in Maths Ext 1 and Chinese Extension. In both cases, the cohorts were strong and your marks simply did not meet the level needed to gain a 97 ATAR.

    What's the punishment for plagiarism?

That is academic malpractice, subject to academic punishment ranging from a zero to being denied your HSC for that subject to being expelled - it's what your school deems fit for the offence and how it came about. Both could be punished if the person who wrote it did so with intent. The process...

    Rankings in Year 12

It depends on several factors - how close you are from first, the highest exam mark and the spread of exam marks. The question is impossible to answer.

is 80 WAM acheivable in commerce first year???

80 in Commerce at UNSW is just outside of the top 5% in later years. In earlier years, it's probably the top 15%.

    Aerospace Engineering

My job is highly specialised, but most professional jobs regardless of the profession are the same - there are interesting, challenging, mundane, political aspects to the job. But it certainly helps when you're naturally interested in that field. I am part of a department that manages aircraft...

How hard is it to get an ATAR of 80 or above?

Are you an above average student or below average student? Whichever you believe you are, how do you actually know you're that? What are you basing that off?
  9. D94

    Ranks needed for 90 ATAR

A school that performs inconsistently is typically dependent on the performance of just a few students. Your rank won't determine anything. It will come down to your marks and the standard of your assessments - are you getting good marks in easy assessments or good marks in hard assessments etc...

Unanswered Questions that have been bugging me

It doesn't have a direct effect, but it may affect your level of education compared to the best schools. Read this: http://community.boredofstudies.org/461/atar-hsc-marks/363581/transitioning-new-school-y11-impact-ranking.html#post7246317 It is important to choose subjects that you like and...

    Aerospace Engineering

So I'm just a lowly engineer working in the field of aviation. I work alongside people from the likes of Boeing, Airbus, GE, Rolls Royce, Pratt & Whitney, Honeywell, BAE Systems etc. and what is prevalent is that the field is not small, but because you are highly specialised in what you do and...

    Co-op Interviews??

Think about your question for a second. You're applying for a scholarship where the students are typically ones who excel in both academic and everyday life. You need to be self-sufficient and capable of doing your own research - a couple of qualities of a Co-op scholar. If you have been on the...

Help with scaling (why is it so confusinggggg)

http://community.boredofstudies.org/461/atar-hsc-marks/369996/rankings-year-12-a.html#post7265409 Does that answer your question?
  14. D94

    Final Marks distribution?

There's no requirement to scale students. There's no requirement to meet the same percentage as previous years. Your cohort could very well be crap. Conversely, it could be deemed your assessments and final exam are beyond the expectation required in the course and a mark adjustment will be...

What does this mean for my ATAR?

http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/ebos/static/TAINC_2016_12.html If students are equal on the highest HSC marks in a course, then the following process is used to determine the recipient(s): take an average of each student's examination mark and assessment mark after alignment to...
  16. D94

What does this mean for my ATAR?

Yes there is - it's your own HSC exam mark. In a cohort of 1, all that matters is your HSC exam mark.

Should I continue with Civil Engineering?

What made you switch from Mechanical to specifically Civil? If you switched to Computer Science or Radiography, could you see yourself asking these same questions in 2 years time?
  18. D94

    Band 6 cutoff?

Not much data, but here are some that people have shared: http://rawmarks.info/wiki/Information_Processes_and_Technology
  19. D94

    Rankings in Year 12

Not entirely true. Your school marks determine your rank. Your school mark is what is being adjusted to determine your final mark. Your rank plays essentially no role in how your final mark is calculated. If you are 1st, your HSC assessment mark is equal to the highest HSC exam mark of any...
