    UNSW Subject Reviews.

ACTL4002 Ease: 4/10. It is not easy tying everything in your undergrad together and applying it to real life scenarios. This course and the previous really forces you to think widely. Content: 7/10. Somewhat interesting, mostly important where relevance is somewhat related to what path you want...

HSC 2015 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

Re: MX2 2015 Integration Marathon Pretty ugly. You can use x^2 = \sec \theta and x^2 = \tan \theta for each integral respectively. Simplify etc. etc. Then use y^2 = \sin \theta to end up with something like \frac{y^2+1}{2y(1-y^4)} which we can quickly decompose (using our best mate the...

UNSW vs Macquarie Actuarial Studies Round 2

In my year, i think there were heaps of co-ops. Maybe 10 out of 180 students or more?

    Math1251

Ohh right. Probably only students who took MATH1251 in that year have it. If you're looking for more practise, MathSOC will be releasing older papers with solutions soon. :)

Are you looking for answers or the quizzes?

    UNSW Subject Reviews.

ACTL3141 Ease: 7/10. Not too bad, really the only conceptually difficult thing was figuring out exposures (which I still don't get). Content: 9/10. Content was linked very cohesively and I understood the relevance of each part of the course. Was somewhat interesting. Lecturer: 9/10. Sherris is a...

    The UNSW Scaling Thread

Adding courses that haven't been talked about: MATH2111 - decent-good upwards scaling MATH2601 - no scaling MATH2621 - no scaling really MATH2221 - no scaling (so easy though. very easy HD if you learn the methods) ACTL2111 - no scaling ACTL2102 - no scaling and they say have faith in scaling...

HSC 2015 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

Re: MX2 2015 Integration Marathon The question was in a unique team event Integration Bee paper, specially designed for one team haha. Of those questions, some probably required uni maths.

HSC 2015 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

Re: MX2 2015 Integration Marathon I see you're on an integration bee spree with your questions haha

HSC 2015 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

Re: MX2 2015 Integration Marathon Good job. :) I used a trig substitution and I think it worked out, though I couldn't be bothered resubbing in for $x$ haha.

HSC 2015 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

    Re: MX2 2015 Integration Marathon A fun integral from 2015 UNSW Actuarial Society Integration Bee, \int \frac{\sqrt{x^2+1}\left[\ln\left(x^2+1\right) - 2\ln x\right]}{x^4} \, dx

    Lenz's Law requirements

Eddy currents are induced currents that are circular. The induced current must flow in such a way to oppose the initial change in flux. Say if you're moving a north pole towards the end of a solenoid where both ends are connected, then current can flow throughout the solenoid and through this...

    Lenz's Law requirements

Lenz's law always applies so long as there is an induced EMF. For example, you move a north pole towards a wire. It experiences change in magnetic flux => induced emf (Faraday's law) => eddy currents in this case. They circulate in such a way to produce a south pole to oppose the change in...

High 85s Oops you meant this year. Probably like 86-87

    ASB Dean's List

I mustn't have made it :( Sad daiz

How do I do this HSC question?

Nope. Doesn't matter. Solving 2 equations simultaneously means you're finding a solution that satisfies both of the equations (the point of intersection). This means it doesn't matter whichever equation you sub it in to because you should yield the same y-value (to get the same point).
  17. nightweaver066

    ASB Dean's List

Possible, but unlikely. I was on 84.375 and I don't know anyone who got a WAM lower than mine who was also on the Dean's list lol

    UNSW Chit Chat Thread

Re: UNSW Chit Chat Thread 2015. Rooms have been upgraded (well the room I was in). As a side note, for those who are interested, there'll be the MathSOC Annual Integration Bee running this year with a prize of $50 + trophy for 1st prize and $20 for 2nd prize. :)

    What to bring to O-week?

Thinking of bringing a bag? Chances are, you can get a free tote bag from various stalls. Use the biggest as your main bag and put all the others in it. Thinking of bringing water? Chances are, there'll be stalls giving away free drinks such as water & energy drinks. Thinking of bringing pens...
