    Actuarial Studies Undergraduate

Either one of the two options above are fine. Do FINS1613 if you want to make your life a little easier in ACTL1101 in sem 2. Do MGMT1001 if you want to use your English skills before they deteriorate (like mine have).

Can I transfer into Actuarial Studies?

Yep it's possible. At UNSW, you can transfer through an Internal Program Transfer. It's moderately difficult as you need to have a distinction WAM and achieve a minimum of 80 WAM for your maths courses (minimum 2) over a year. It's definitely achievable if you study consistently for your...

    1st Year University Mathematics Thread

With that DE, I don't think a substitution is necessary, and that the solution can be implicit. A tip, assuming I did it correctly, is just aim to solve the DE, don't solely rely on methods you learnt in uni.

    1st Year University Mathematics Thread

Alternatively, a simpler way to do it would be to use complex numbers. Consider the case where z = 0. Then, it boils down to the vectors formed by z = 1/5(4 + 3i)exp(i pi/4), w = 1/5(4 + 3i)exp(-i pi/4) So we get our two solutions, (\frac{4}{5\sqrt{2}} - \frac{3}{5\sqrt{2}}...

    1st Year University Mathematics Thread

    Lets hope this is right after having not touched first year maths for so long haha \text{The dot product is defined as } \mathbf{a}\cdot \mathbf{b} = \|\mathbf{a}\| \|\mathbf{b}\| \cos\theta \text{Applying this,} LHS = (0,1,-1) \cdot (2, 1, M) = 1 - M \begin{align*} RHS &= \|(0,1,-1)\| \|...
