University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Yeah, UWS is great because it is quite easy to obtain a high GPA. I don't know anyone personally whose on a 7.0 GPA, but I would assume there would be a few. I do, however, know quite a few who are on a 6.875 like me. With Medicine, chances are always slim. But it's about maximising your...

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Generally, the answer is yes. This is mainly because you can easily get credited for the units you have already completed if the two courses have overlaps. However, across institutions this may be a lot harder.

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Yeah not really, in terms of preparation for GAMSAT, I'd say both USYD and UNSW would give you the foundational basis of knowledge for section 3 of the papers - first year chem, bio and HSC physics. USYD Medicine, however, is probably the most competitive graduate medical course to gain entry...

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

I've already had an interview for UWS and UNCLE Medicine. So I'm hoping I'm in Medicine for 2013 - however my UMAT was extremely borderline, which will decrease my prospects slightly. If I don't gain a place in Medicine this year, then I will sit the GAMSAT this year (you can sit it in your...

    Difference between 2 medicine courses

Difference is that the MBBS/B Arts is a double degree. That is, the workload is greater and it is definitely more demanding. I'd say that those that do the Arts degree do it out of personal interest more than anything. There aren't really any increased career prospects from it. However, a B...

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Ah okay fair enough. I know what you mean - by no means do I have a desire to become a scientist. But the way I see it is - if by worst case scenario - I graduate having completed the GAMSAT twice and the UMAT a total of 4 times and I haven't made it into medicine, I should have at least...

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Ah k, so I take it your not continuing to pursue Medicine as a potential career?

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Medicine isn't competitive because of the GPA thresholds. I will tentatively say that the majority of medical applicants should be easily able to achieve a 6.0+ GPA. The difficulty in gaining an interview or gaining entry is definitely the UMAT cut-offs. If you are a non-GWS, the cut off of...

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Haha yeah - thank you. UWS Adv Sci truly was the best decision I could make. I, like sointoyourself considered UNSW Med Sci, USYD Physio even UNSW Optom. But the advantageous of UWS's program are unmatched.. a quite significantly decreased UMAT threshold, the ability to attain a high GPA with...

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Yeah Ivella is correct, you can still apply to UWS as a nonstandard (university student) - you'll still need to meet UMAT thresholds around (151 for GWS, 160+ for non-GWS) and a 6.1 GPA.

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Yeah. The benefit of the Adv Sci course is that the UMAT cut-off drops even further - because I was an Adv Sci student I managed to receive an interview with a 144. (albeit I was the 6th and final spot).

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

I think it's unlikely that you'll get a transfer into UNSW.. but by all means, you could end up smashing the UMAT and receive one. If you only want Medicine - I would suggest UNSW Med Sci. UNSW at least has a 'lateral entry scheme' - I know it's competitive, but its better than nothing and...

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Yeah this year the cut off for UNCLE was 61/50/50. The good thing about UNCLE is that the UMAT and ATAR/GPA is just a threshold, so if your good at interviews you'll have a great shot at getting a place. There's multiple UWS campuses for Adv Sci - Campbelltown, Parramatta, Hawkesbury. But...

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Yeah USYD medicine is only a graduate program - whereby to enter you have to perform well in the GAMSAT, meet the GPA threshold and do well in the interview. The only other way to enter the program is to get a 99.95 ATAR - which I believe is the combined medicine course your referring to.

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

Your best bet for Medicine would be either UWS or UNCLE (Newcastle). Are you a GWS student?

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

You can transfer from any course into Medicine. You will technically be able to transfer into UNSW Medicine - however, your ATAR is definitely on the lower end. In order to gain an interview for UNSW Medicine, assuming you achieve a HD average (7.0 GPA) in first year uni, your new academic...

University Preferences (Medicine Goal) HELP Desperate!!

UWS's Adv Sci program is the most advantageous if your looking to get into Medicine - undergraduate or postgraduate. Ivella unfortunately is incorrect in saying that you gain entry into 2nd year medicine.. The Adv Sci program merely enables you to get an interview for medicine.. if you are...

    UMAT on year 11

Your not allowed to do it. ACER doesn't allow it. But it would be very beneficial to do, if possible.
