I am going to assume you're pretty smart since you go to a high ranked school. So the best way to calculate it would be find out how many 99 ATARs there were there last year, let's just say there were 25 and your cohort size was 162. Then you want to be in 25/162 *100% of your cohort which is...
School rank will make or break any estimations so it's vital you provide us with it...
EDIT: whoops didn't read further down, but others are right: top 3 in all subjects with atleast 1 or 2 in which you're topping and getting those band 6s
You'll max out at about 85 if you purely rote learn for those subjects. It's really about exam technique and mastering "HSC style" questions if you want to increase from this mark onwards...
MX2: any rank, just make sure you get above 85 as your final HSC mark
Eng: top 5
Chem: top 5
Bio: top 6
Physics: top 3
Out of these subjects you really need to try and top atleast one of them to be on the safe side..
Congrats mate, all the hard work must have paid off :).
On a similar note my Advanced English rank in year 11 --> around 120/200. After a year of hard-work, READING all my texts, spending hours and hours analysing everything got my rank to 3/200 by the end of year 12 and a 94 HSC mark. I...
Re: What absurd things have people done in your school due to competition and rivalry
Just a heads up for everyone: Please don't get caught up into the hype of the HSC, at the end of the day its just a small step in your life and you shouldn't be sabotaging your friends or even anyone else for...
Re: Why is it taking so long for the 2012 HSC exams to become available on the board
^, but most HSC students have access to the exam paper anyway. Oh, you mean marking guidelines?
Wait till this 'genius' hits the real world when he starts working. Ok, he might land himself a nice job but would the employers see merit in the work he does? I completely agree that the HSC requires/forces us to rote learn but this is a habit which we really need to get out of ASAP!!
Remember the ATAR is a rank not an average of your marks. A 79.80 ATAR means that you are in the top 20.2% of the state which is a reasonable achievement...
Gahh, got to hate some schools for giving false expectations for some students.... That said, it might just mean you need to do a re-check of your marks - if you are confident that you should have scored higher.
I know this will be really hard but just take a look at the students in your cohort and think about how they performed in their subjects, specifically in English. If they went reasonably well and have high expected ATARs you can expect this language to scale up (as a rough guide) and similarly...
It could just mean that the exam really suited your school this year. Maybe your teacher went through some very similar questions beforehand or you guys just had a strong cohort...
