Does anyone have copies of trial papers from this year?

Ah nice lol. Did you have anything taken out of the paper?

Does anyone have copies of trial papers from this year?

Usually just repeatedly doing trials helps, as you are able to refine your accuracy under exam conditions. Also, a lot of questions in 2u can be verified by doing them with alternate methods and seeing if you get the same answer. Most importantly is properly checking your work. Reread over every...

Does anyone have copies of trial papers from this year?

Long probability question, I think part 3? (I'll need to have another look at the paper). I'm more annoyed about the force diagram one, (the one where it is rotating on the hyperbola). I did the question too fast and just assumed the normal and tension were perpendicular. Looking at the question...

Does anyone have copies of trial papers from this year?

96, with nothing taken out of the paper. I'm quite annoyed at the mistakes I made though: In one it was a probability question in which I wrote the complete correct method then wrote down the final expression wrong, another I forgot to square root the modulus of a complex number, and another I...

    MX2 Marathon

I sure hope that geometry doesn't have more of a weight in this exam, convoluted geo questions are the absolute worst. Is the answer to that problem \sqrt{6}+\sqrt{2} though?

What raw marks in extension 2 generally correspond to state ranks?

They generally make it pretty clear when you have to do this, but using the property: \int_a^{b}f(x)dx=\int_a^{b}f(a+b-x)dx Usually when it is done it is for something like trigonometric integrals, where you substitute pi/2-x, and change a sinx to a cosx. When you add this to the original...

What raw marks in extension 2 generally correspond to state ranks?

It was basically just reverse quotient rule

    MX2 Marathon

    Sweet. I basically solved it using sine rule on the different triangles: \text{Let} \angle{OAB} = \theta \angle{OBC} = 2\theta \angle{OCA} = 3\theta \text{Now} \angle{ABC}=\angle{BAC}=\angle{BCA}=60 \text{ , since triangle is equilateral} \angle{OBA} = 60 - 2\theta \text{By using sine...

    Is the answer \frac{\sqrt{6} + \sqrt{2}}{2}?

BOS maths extension 2 trial exam 2018 E4 cutoff

Its hard to know exactly, as the actual hsc has so many easy marks to get whereas pretty much every question in BOS is Q15+ level. I would say if you can do about ~25% of the paper you have a decent shot at getting enough of the hard questions in the actual hsc to land b4, providing you get all...

    MX2 Marathon

Ahhhhhhh that makes so much more sense. I was thinking it may have something to do with that uneven distribution of chord lengths with perp distance, but didn't know how to put it into words or even if that was a thing. Thanks for clearing up that misconception

    MX2 Marathon

Lol I don't know anything about uni probability but I'll take your word for it

    MX2 Marathon

Oh right, so it has to do with the different probability distributions of the chords. But yeah I would imagine (not 100% sure) the average of any chord would be the same as the average of all horizontal chords, because you can do the exact same infinite set of chords at any inclanation from the...

    MX2 Marathon

Yeah thats the way I did it with the angle as the parameter, which gives 4/pi. I still find it weird though that it yields a different answer with distances, using: \bar{L}=\frac{1}{2}\int_{-1}^{1}2\sqrt{1-h^2}dh Oh well, the angle way is more intuitive anyway lol.
  15. T

    MX2 Marathon

You get 4/pi if you use the angle as the parameter, but if you use the perpendicular distance from the center to the chord you get pi/2, which I find kind of weird. Two different definitions of average or something I guess?

    Looking for an ATAR estimate

Yeah I'm really hoping to state rank in 4u but stupid mistakes have always been there to screw me up lol, and it worries me that my external mark is literally all that matters, as if I have a bad day it will heavily impact my overall atar. I've been doing past BOS trials and have generally been...

    Looking for an ATAR estimate

Thank you very much:). I'm actually hoping to get the state rank in 4u maths again this year, which will be a 100, but I need to iron out my accuracy as in my trial all the mistakes I made were really stupid errors (stuff like forgetting to square root the modulus and drawing force diagrams...

    Looking for an ATAR estimate

Thanks for the response, English is a huge pain for me lol. What mark in English do you think will sufficiently drag me up enough for the 99, if I were to get 90+ for physics and chem, which I am hoping to do?

    Looking for an ATAR estimate

Hey guys, I recently received my overall ranks for a lot of my subjects and am looking for an ATAR estimate. I am really hoping to get over 98, but think that may be a bit unrealistic. Here are my marks and ranks: School Rank: ~230 in 2018, ~180 in 2017 (Subject/Trial Mark/Overall Rank) English...
