    Sums and Differences of Areas (Integration)

    So I have the question; Find the exact area enclosed between the curve y= sqrt (4-x^2) and the line x-y+2=0 At the moment, I know I can integrate it using integration by substitution and trig identities, along with inverse sin. Is there a faster or simpler way to integrate it? Thanks

    The question said a/x-2 + b/x-3 , so you had to find the values of a and b. With the polynomial, did you look for another root, to get it to simultaneous equations, solve for m and n, used one of the roots using factor theorem to find the remaining roots?

    I know how to derive the ellipse equation, but what I don't understand is, that you can unexplicitly be taught of an ellipse in a 3U subject. I knew it was an ellipse straight away, but I thought I would be wrong, as it is a 3U course not 4U, so I thought my teacher would go what an idiot.

    That is exactly what I thought it was, an ellipse. I'm sure it said it wanted to find the parametric equation. I did Conics last year in Maths C in QLD, but I thought it can't be in a 3U subject. I might have read it wrong, maybe it was asking for the cartesian, given the parametric.

    I solved b) and c) and they weren't the same as yours Let Alpha= A and B= Beta B) a^2+b^2 = (a+b)^2 - 2ab = 5^2 - 2 * -5 = 25+10 = 35 c) (A + B)^3 = (A+B)^3 - 3ab (a+b) = 5^3 - 3 * -5 * 5 = 125+ 75 =200 I also checked the back of the book to verify the soln answer's and they were correct.

    When making notes based on syllabus...

    Anything your lab manuals is assessable, so don't leave it just to the syllabus dot points, although they are important. Just review prac's that you have done, as I guarantee it will be in your examinations.
