    B Commerce UNSW

You'd be fine with only HSC 2U maths as long as you do a bridging course in 3U before uni starts. Then just work really hard at uni for MATH1151/1251 and you'll be fine.

What clubs and societies are you joining?

Fuck +100 right there, seriously so true, when I did a CSE course I raged so hard at the people in it.

Can I have please some advice about Civil Engineering? Thanks.

The MX2 maths used in first year engineering doesn't really go beyond integration techniques, complex numbers, polys, and graphing. A friend of mine asked a School of Maths lecturer why more MX2 isn't in it, and he replied that most of the stuff in MX2 doesn't have much of an application (e.g...

Can I have please some advice about Civil Engineering? Thanks.

I dunno why so many people say PHYS1121/PHYS1131 is "real physics" when compared to the HSC course, the first 6 weeks of PHYS1121/PHYS1131 was pretty much HSC physics except with a bit of calculus thrown in that you didn't even really need to know. There's a shitload of resources out there for...

    Textbook Lists?

Easy cheat way to check: http://www.bookshop.unsw.edu.au/cgi-bin/bookweb/subject2?subject1=MATH2019&Submit=Submit Replace MATH2019 with course code. Might not be fully updated for all subjects though. Like said above, wait until the lectures as well, so many textbooks are a waste of time...

    Engineering/Commerce?

Yeah just follow the UNSW handbook link above, you can take the courses whenever you want in theory, but it's best just to follow the guide

Engineering at UNSW - computing 1A??

"This content is currently unavailable The page you requested cannot be displayed at the moment. It may be temporarily unavailable, the link you clicked on may have expired, or you may not have permission to view this page. " Must be private or some crap, might be invitation only

Engineering at UNSW - computing 1A??

Nah not in any fb groups for comp at all, got a few people from 1917 S1 on my facebook though. I'll try find the 2911 group now. EDIT: Can't find the thing, link me

    ELISE?

When I did it last year it was on Blackboard, but took ages to come up. Didn't appear until semester started I don't think. You have until like week 5 of S1 to do it so don't stress. It's piss easy too. Guy above - you linked to the tutorial that helps you through it, not the actual exam.

Engineering at UNSW - computing 1A??

Rocket science is where it's at! Yeah I was considering 1927 S2 but as soon as I heard Nymeyer was teaching it I thought "fuck that" and decided to do it over summer. Might be in COMP2911 with you if I decide to do a comp minor for my b.sc in S1 this year, i'll have to look out for the one...

6 hours of classes - realistic???

Almost nothing in eng alternates one week on one week off in first year except some MATS1101 stuff and PHYS homework tutes. Think ENGG1000 does occasionally, but it's group projecty shit.
  13. TheStallion

Engineering at UNSW - computing 1A??

Nah i'm Aerospace eng/science double degree, I just did COMP1917 because I was pretty good at programming, and doing COMP1927 over summer with Richard. What about you, CSE?
  14. TheStallion

Engineering at UNSW - computing 1A??

Yeah pretty much, they're generally really long with a really short amount of time to do them in. There's a major project which you do as part of a team too, team co-ordination is always hard in cse, dunno why, everyone just seems way more disorganised than the group projects in eng. Or maybe...

    thoughts on these courses?

Something from the faculty of built environment, so architecture by itself or something.

    thoughts on these courses?

Well UNSW is the best uni for eng in NSW (debatable, but top 2 for sure), so no. As said above, if you don't enjoy maths then don't bother doing eng.

Engineering at UNSW - computing 1A??

This. So much this. The content isn't actually too hard to learn, but the assignments that are set are very difficult to do. Mark allocation is pretty good though, 1/3rd of the marks is just on a portfolio if I can remember correctly. That portfolio does have to have all the completed tasks in...

6 hours of classes - realistic???

MATH1231 is a coreq for MMAN1300 as well. Fail timetabling much, you wouldn't have even been able to enrol in it. 6 hours in a row is pretty shit, seen worse though. Can just skip pointless crap anyway

    thoughts on these courses?

Yawn. What are you interested in? We don't need more people in eng without the drive to actually do it. All are good courses, but it really depends on your interests.
