    HSC 2017 Predictions/Preparation Thread [Biology]

    Who did sorry? And why?

    Bio exam thoughts

When I read that question you posted in a different thread, I noticed something like that was in none of the past papers, so I asked my teacher to go through a question like that. That's true for the fungi protozoan question. I chose the cell wall one since some fungi can be multicellular...

    Bio exam thoughts

For that particular question today though I don't think you need to talk about phenotypic expression since it didn't say anything about it. You should be fine.

Shoutouts to Pikachua975; if I get a band 6, it's thanks to him.

    HSC 2017 Predictions/Preparation Thread [Biology]

Those seem like valid points; the only issue is the question that I posted asked about genetically modified animals, not plants.

    HSC 2017 Predictions/Preparation Thread [Biology]

Yes that did help, thank you for clarifying. Stupid me only just realised that the older past papers do have marking guidelines rip. Here it is for that particular question: • Identification of at least two relevant ethical issues associated with genetically modifying animals • Provides an...

    HSC 2017 Predictions/Preparation Thread [Biology]

Discuss some ethical considerations arising from the development of genetically modified animals. (4) How would you go about answering this question? When it says "ethical considerations" is it only the negative points it's asking for, or is it both positive and negative since it says "discuss"

Advice for Applying to St. Mary's Senior High School?

This isn't exactly 100% true. Sure not all the teachers there are great, *cough* that one physics teacher *cough*. Most teachers such as Rosa are willing to help students if they ask for it. Like you said, St Mary's is an independent environment, so most of the teachers aren't going to spoon...

    Extension 2 Maths Experience?? Urgent!

*Looks at your ATAR Nah but for real, as long as you're passionate about math and put in the work, you'll be fine. Half my class dropped the subject (8/16) but that was mainly since they didn't put in as much effort as the subject requires. Looking at your marks in 3U you definitely seem...

    Just want some advice

Honestly there's nothing wrong about that; it's not like you're going to be studying every single hour of the day. Unless you really need those extra 2 hours to study, I think it's ok to go out for dinner for a bit.

maintaining a balance HSC past paper question

I don't think that is correct as it's not a receptor detecting the weight, rather it's just simply only your brain sending a message along the nerves to the muscles. From what I've read though there is a feedback mechanism once movement has started that allows the brain to monitor the movement...

Should I consider Maths Ext 2?

Definitely would recommend giving it a shot if you really enjoy maths. Though I do have to warn you it is a huge step up from 3u and it CAN be a huge time sink that could have been spent on other subjects.

anyone else feeling like they cant remember anything?!

Try doing some past papers, I've noticed I find it easier to recall information if I actively try to answer questions regarding the content. Hopefully that helps.

Is anyone else feeling lazy towards the HSC or is it just me?

I'm definitely feeling lazy, mainly because it's all revising and I'm kinda sick of studying the same stuff over and over again. I feel like I'm not using my time as well as I should be. What I've been doing is wake up early and force myself to study (I use the pomodoro technique) so at least i...

    BoS Maths Trials 2017

I was considering doing it but I don't want to embarrass myself by getting the lowest score in both test haha.

    HSC Biology Marathon 2017

I think its the fact that if they're thinner, it wouldn't be able to support it's own weight, causing the xylem tube to "collapse." Also if the xylem tubes "collapse," it could block itself off. Therefore no or limited amount of water can go through its own xylem tubes, causing the plant to...

    HSC Biology Marathon 2017

Quarantine measures exist to prevent the spread of disease into Australia Justify TWO measures that you would expect AQIS (the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service) to take in response to the recent swine flu outbreak in Mexico and North America (4 marks)

All nighters or wake early in the morning?

I guess it depends if you're a morning or night person. Personally I cannot study when I'm tired or function without sleep so pulling an all nighter is not possible for me. So generally speaking I will wake up early (I have a bad habit of waking up much earlier than I need to the point where I...

    HSC Biology Marathon 2017

That's understandable, i just looked at the marking guidelines to make sure I wasn't giving out the wrong information or if there was indeed a technology like that in the syllabus we're meant to know. If you guys don't mind checking, would this be an acceptable answer? "It would decrease the...
